Whiterow Restaurant has transformed from a charming eatery into a less inviting space following its recent expansion. Diners report an unappealing greasy odor overshadowing their meals, with many feeling that the pricing does not reflect the quality of the food. While some patrons have experienced delicious offerings, like perfectly battered cod, others were disappointed by dry and reheated chips. Service inconsistency and a sense of unwelcomeness have marred visits for several long-time customers. Although it retains some loyal fans, many diners are reconsidering future visits due to these troubling changes. Whiterow is at a crossroads.
We have all really enjoyed meals at Whiterow but sadly this time it wasn't great. They have just opened a new area which is nice and bright however, we ordered the same meals we usually have but when the wait staff took the order she did seem a bit muddled (she seemed nice but possibly was new). 3 of the meals came out together and then the last one came out a few minutes later (not an issue really). The worst bit though was that the chips were terrible. Really dry, not sure if they had been reheated or under a heat lamp too long as they inedible really. When the waitress came over to ask if everything was okay we did say that the chips weren't very good and she didn't really know what to say so just apologised for it. I think it's the first time i've ever said anything in a restaurant and we definitely aren't ones to complete but they were not good. At the end when the plates were collected we had left most of the chips and no comment was made about it. Overall the fish was still nice and portion size was good but we don't live that close and it's doubtful if we'll go back due to the disappointing chips and no acknowledgement of any issue.
I ordered take away fish and chips for two and was given a buzzer that would alert me as I waited in my car when my order was ready. After waiting more than twenty minutes I returned to query the length of my wait (it was not busy); the buzzer sounded as I reached the door of the shop. I was told I had been buzzed five times (the buzzer had not sounded while I was in my car clearly for whatever reason there is a range issue) and that a member of staff had looked for me in the car park (obviously they had not looked very far). I seemed not to be believed that the buzzer did not work and, when I queried whether my food would still be hot if they had spent some time supposedly buzzing and looking for me, I was glibly told my food would still be hot and no offer was made to replace my order with fresh food. After a very short drive home I discovered the inevitable: the food was lukewarm and inedible. £24 had been wasted. My last visit to Whiterow Fish and Chips.
Called in for a fish and chip takeaway. After waiting approximately 10 minutes, thinking our dinner would be lovely, as we presumed cooked to order. We arrived home in under 5 minutes to enjoy our dinner. Sorry, let me rephrase that..... Fish was cold and rubbery, batter dark brown, chips cold and soggy. As for our large mushy peas, cold and certainly not large! For the price charged you should at least expect the meal to be hot. No more visits to Whiterow Farm Shop, we'll pay less and get better quality from our local chippy!
We have used Whiterow Farm Cafe to meet friends for a number of years and until yesterday have always received a warm welcome and good service. There were four of us who met up as usual at 11am yesterday. We ordered coffee (which arrived at 11.20am) and declined the invitation to order food at that point as it was our intention to stay for lunch. At 12 noon the waitress arrived at our table (having been sent by the supervisor) requesting that if we were not intending to order more drinks and food then we would be asked to leave as the table was required for lunch. We reluctantly ordered more drinks having only just finished the first ones and we were at that point still in the middle of catching up. Having been made to feel so unwelcome we decided against ordering lunch and went to the friendly local village pub where we spent most of the afternoon. Beckington Farm shop cafe is far from the place it used to be and has become far too commercialised and greedy. We will not return but I don't suppose they care if we do or not.
Visited today at 1 o’clock for two Takeaway Kids portions we are in our mid 80’s!, After a short wait we placed our order with a very pleasant lady, who gave us beeper to hail us when ready. In less than 10 minutes they were ready. We have been here many times over the years and today’s meals were generous and provided beautiful battered Cod and tasty chips. A real pleasure. Thank you Whiterow. Ralph and Leila Butcher
