The Cornerhouse - Mendip
The Cornerhouse
Description
The Corner House offers a blend of charm and challenge for travelers in Frome. Guests appreciate the warm, welcoming staff and spacious rooms, ideal for family stays. The breakfast receives high marks, particularly the full English options. However, some reviews note outdated decor, cleanliness issues in bathrooms, and a limited menu for vegetarians. The location is convenient for exploring, but parking can be a hassle, and noise from other guests may disrupt tranquility. While many enjoy the vibrant bar atmosphere and independent shops nearby, a renovation could enhance the overall experience significantly. Overall, it's a decent choice for a quick getaway.

A family room for three adults was perfect, a good bathroom, parking onsite and a really good local breakfast awaited us at a reasonable price. Half a mile from the Cheese Grain made it the perfect place for us to stay after seeing a gig. The only comments are that the room was very cold and took the provided heater a fair bit of time to warm it up, and the kettle is small for a family room...although we do like our tea. One disappointment was that no food was available when we got there as the chef had been given the night off, but halfway down the hill towards the town centre, tucked away down an alley on the left, is the Old Bath Arms, which is worth a visit!
We stayed here as a family of four. I chose it because it was close to Longleat where we had visited for the day and because the family room included two single beds for the children. We received a warm welcome on arrival. The staff were very chatty with our girls and we were shown to our room. The room was a good size for the 4 of us. Tea and coffee was available but the only tempting thing about it was the Lotus biscuits. The en-suite bathroom was disappointing. It was really quite grubby and in need of a deep clean. A renovation wouldn’t go amiss. The breakfast was excellent! I had the full English and asked for eggs, bacon and sausages to be well done which they were. Best hotel breakfast I’ve had in a while. Overall the place served its purpose as a place to sleep for the night but I wouldn’t stay here again.
Had dinner here. Very nice. I had a caramelised onion and goats cheese tart with a hefty salad garnish and Darren had breaded camembert also with a hefty salad. These we just the starters! Darren had a spicy breaded chicken and I had homemade fish and chips. So much food we couldn't finish. But very very nice and if you're with the gourmet club you get two meals for thr price of one.
The location of this restaurant is fantastic and the staff were all very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The bar had a great atmosphere. The breakfast was excellent. The rooms were spacious, clean, tidy, and a good value for money. We stayed in the family room which comfortably slept 5 with no issues. The rooms are a bit worn but it wouldn't deter us from staying here again. Overall, we rate the rooms 4 out of 5.
