What User dislikes about The Queen Victoria:
We see the Pub on the news as we were staying in 'Cheddar ' for the weekend we thought we would check the place out...... We had food drinks on a Saturday afternoon here! The food was very nice pipping hot!! But what struck me by the place was how friendly the landlord his staff were.... Also we got chatting to all the regulars which were exceptionally friendly also.... All in all, a friendly atmosphere all round!! A... View all feedback.
The staff of the male bar was so nice. I had asked myself to make a cocktail and was told by the female manager, “do not do that again” although I offered to pay the full price for an orange juice and a rum that apparently they did. Do no cocktails after our eating went some groups and the rest went to the bar and asked for a “fruity drink” after the ban with the nice bartender said the female manager “no dishes no cocktails asked them.” the male chef then said to my friend “ drink her pints and that’s, go back to her campsite” even if we don’t camp. we were then addressed by the female manier and said we were no longer welcome to be served. our table was not rude or loud, and we spend about £400-500 this evening. we went soon after. disgusting service we don't go back to. we had also called in advance to see if they had a booking of 9 and was said no bookings required. but when we set up, many tables and huts were booked. a small communication would go a long way, not come back.
We were a few miles away and were recommended to this pub. what a Jewel. we have gedimated there 4 times and every time the house cooked eating was amazing. especially recommend the steak pipe. once divorced in one of the little huts, which is a great idea. I'd probably get out of here again.
We have just tented on the street and walked to the pub. we had a great greeting from the young and were extremely helpful, we ordered food from their good menu and I can no longer recommend eating, along with all the big comments. of those around us. pie was huge and very tasty. good choice of crying and beating. we went back a few nights later and I had the lame on the recommendation of the barman. excellent eating. landdame took the time to say hello, even through them had only seen us a few times, and it was clear that the whole team, so much effort to keep the place clean and big dips and drinks on the hand. we took our powder and were offered by team spot on water.
We visit this pub regularly throughout the year and always have a wonderful experience, whether it's Winter or Summer. The meals are reasonably priced and filling, and a nice pint of Guinness is always a bonus. The cozy atmosphere is complemented by the roaring log fires, making it the perfect country pub. It can get busy, so we recommend booking ahead during peak times.
Place is nice enough a bit cramped, the service has a lot to be desired though. We may have got them on a bad day but they really made us all feel they would prefer for us to not be there, maybe because we weren’t regulars, to be fair it was only one member of the bar staff. We only live down the road in Wells so would have used this more often but I doubt if we will now. Some people aren’t suited to the service industry I guess.
