Ploughboy Inn - Mendip
Ploughboy Inn
Description
Nestled at a crossroads in a quaint village, The Ploughboy Inn combines rustic charm with a picturesque setting. While the welcoming decor and beautiful flower displays initially entice, experiences vary significantly. Guests have praised the friendly service from staff, particularly in accommodating special requests and ensuring a comfortable atmosphere. However, the food quality has prompted mixed reactions, with some meals disappointing due to overcooked components. Despite this, many find solace in the pub's calming ambiance, delicious desserts, and attentive service, making it a place worth revisiting. A true family-run establishment, The Ploughboy retains a cozy, inviting spirit.
Feedback
We were driving home from Wooky Hole and were looking for some where for food, stopped at the ploughboy inn, what a little Gem, delicious food, wounderful friendly service from the Dad and daughter team, OMG the waffles ...........heaven in my mouth .....Photo of my...empty plate .....
The Ploughboy sits at a junction on the trunk road between Bristol and Wells, with an ample car park, and (at the time of our visit) plenty of seating both inside and at wooden tables outside. I visited with my elderly and partially-sighted mother, and...we were given every consideration. The draught beer was very good, and the food (a simple ploughman's lunch, as it should be) was top-notch and appeared very quickly. The facilities were easy to access for someone with a stick and poor vision. As they say: would visit again.
The plough boy is a beautiful old pub at a crossroads in a small village. It has plenty of space outside to sit in the garden but no outside seating except one small table that has a sign that says you are not allowed to...sit at it. The most obvious thing that is missing is a warm welcome. We are a family of seven staying in a cottage nearby for a week and myself and son-in-law went over to check the place out, have a pint and book a table for the family the following night, we were smartly dressed, took all the appropriate COVID precautions and politely asked if we could have a table and a drink in the almost empty pub. The old woman behind the bar said no because we hadn’t booked, OK can we book a table for tomorrow? No you will have to ring tomorrow. Well guess what. We didn’t We went to Tesco and bought all our own food and drinks for the week. On the plus side we probably saved ourselves
We stopped here for a light lunch on our way from the airport (my first English meal in months And we had a great time. Good cider, good ploughmans, really nice staff. We will be back, thanks!
