Our experience was quite disappointing. It took 20 minutes for our waitress to come to the table to take our drink order. The couple next to us arrived 15 minutes after we did and left 15 minutes before us! The sushi lacked flavor; we've definitely had better in other southern cities like Charleston and Savannah. The restaurant wasn't very busy, and our waitress only had three two-person tables to manage. The liquor selection was also underwhelming. I would strongly recommend heading downtown for better sushi and service.
We ordered a variety of sushi, which was quite delicious. However, towards the end of our meal, we discovered a hair on one of the rolls. We mentioned it to our server politely, but when we received the bill, there was no acknowledgment or compensation offered. The waitress informed us that there was nothing she could do since we found the hair at the end of our meal. I find this entirely unacceptable. While I didn't expect the entire meal to be comped, a discount on that roll or a complimentary dessert would have been a reasonable gesture. Due to this unpleasant experience and the rude service, I will not be returning.
I should have opted for ribs anywhere in Memphis rather than sushi at Do. Just add an 'nt' and rename this place Don’t. Dill pickles and jalapeños have no place in sushi. To top it off, the prices for food and beer here are higher than at the airports.
Being from the west coast, we know sushi. We visited every sushi restaurant in Memphis in order to satisfy our cravings but none could come close to Do. A perfect harmony of atmosphere, service and food. The Yellow Tail and Rainbow Roll are a must have. The door staff seemed a little snobbish for Memphis, but the overall experience made this a little irritating. Keep in mind parking is a nightmare and reservations should be made.
