This restaurant is absolutely fantastic! I discovered it by chance during my visit to Memphis, and I can't recommend it enough. The staff was incredibly friendly, the service was excellent, and the food was extraordinary! If you appreciate homemade Italian cuisine, this place is a must-visit! View all feedback.
What Ashton Shields doesn't like about Coletta's Appling:
The noodles had a strange texture, reminiscent of mashed potatoes, and the bread felt more like a soft rock than a soft roll. It tasted as if someone had slathered pizza dough with butter and then briefly flambéed it. As for the chocolate cake, it tasted like a dark chocolate M&M that had been left in the sun for too long and then mixed with half of a chocolate cheesecake.

We came here for a large group birthday party. Our server was EXCELLENT. He had long dark hair pulled back. He was super attentive and didn't miss a beat. The food came out in an ample time and the portions omg!!! The shrimp diane was amazing and I'm still eating on it days later lol. I was honestly pleasantly surprised at my experience here. The cauliflower crust pizza I sampled was great too. I would go back if I'm in the mood for a hearty italian feast!
It pains me to give this review as I've eaten there a number of times and use them a number of time for banquets. This past visit the chef obviously put way too much salt in the sauces. Specifically the Alfredo sauce. Everyone that got anything with Alfredo could not finish their meal because of the salt. in addition to that the hostess was not very friendly, and the bathroom was disgusting. There were bugs and flies, trash all over the place and it stunk. We will not be going back.
We are regular customers. We came in around lunch time. The parking lot was full but when came in to be seated. The tables are empty. The person at the counter waited on us. He said that it would be a 25 minute wait because they had one waitress that was serving a large group of people in the back room of the restaurant. He said that he could serve us at the Bar room. We took the offer. The services was somewhat slow. Customers thereafter were coming in and they were told the same thing about the restaurant situation. Most of the people didn't not wait and left the restaurant. Everything was okay but the food was cooked not like the same back in the days when the restaurant was ran correctly by the original owner. It is very sad that the restaurant lack quality services.
Ugh, I hate to write this review. The building itself is looking rough. There was mold on the ceilings and vents as well as our tablecloth. Yuck. The service was ok. The food was pretty good. The rolls were excellent. I enjoyed my Chicken Alfredo. But the marinara of my others guests were so oily, it was glistening. Overall, I'm really sad about this since I've heard it's a Memphis favorite. But I will not be returning unless it gets a good cleaning and update.
This place is huge with a couple of rooms for private dining events. Plenty of parking and seating. The decor is getting old but the place still has a cozy feel to it. We had a party of 25 in a back room with only one waitress. She did a pretty good job serving everyone. The wings are very good. I also had the garlic bread with cheese. The canneloni was good but need to be microwaved. Entrees are huge and you will need to take food home. I may return.
