I have eaten pilger menus in many restaurants when I went the camino and that was one of better. Eat was in order, freshly prepared in general all they need to go all day. so nothing special (do not expect something special), but still...proper menu. only the waiter was quite strange when he talked to natives in cash, he was very loud, but when he comes to table on order, he said so quietly that one hardly hears him.
We went on the road since we were in melide to make a concert and did not know the city. the restaurant was right on the street from the plaza where the concert took place. at first it was a little after 19 o'clock and from... course we couldn't eat. it is spanish finally. we live in Spanish and usually eat dinner later, but we had missed lunch so we were starving. we decided to sit on the small inner terrace of bar and have a glass of wine while we waited for the right dinner hour. we were surrounded by pilgrims and realized that the place is also a hostel. we ordered a few mencias, and really enjoyed what she brought us (sabatelivs mencía, €1,50 a glass we enjoyed seeing the youngs play cards, even if temperamente fled a little. the waiters were friendly and attentive. they brought a large plate of broth with cheese, jam and chorizo. it was delicious and definitiw a step up, just throw that the things on brot and heat it up. it had a sose of a kind similar to the American BBQ sauce. yummy, that could have been more of it and could be satisfied. but immediately at 20 o'clock the host came and brought us into a dining room. there was Spanish-Ska game on the sound system we thought was great. everything was immaculately clean. we started with pasta because it had mushrooms, the man is a great fan of mushrooms. out comes a large plate with nebulized pasta, mushrooms, garnel and jam, and it's really freakin' good! as well we ordered a second that I now eat for lunch. I got the Kalbs-Steak for dinner and I had the Angus-Burger. both came with pommes, as usual in Spain. my steak was fed and cooked quite perfectly. hubs enjoyed the burger (in the did three small burgers who came without rolling) is it a restaurant at Michelin level? no, but we did not look for that! we have exactly what we wanted, really delicious eating served us by beautiful, friendly people in a clean, pleasant environment. and it was quite expensive. five glasses wein, two entrees, two appetizers, and we paid 48 €. I'd eat here again in a heartbeat.
I had stayed twice before at Chiquitín while doing the Camino de Santiago with very good results. Today, we arrived after completing the Camino Primitivo and were told that our reservation had been cancelled the day before. When pressed to produce the cancellation notice the front desk person was not able to promptly produce it although “it was a recent email with less than 24 hours since issued” according to them. I contacted my booking agency and in fact there was a cancellation sent out on 04-30-25 by mistake. This situation was corrected and new reservations were re-booked in mid May 2025 and additional confirmation was sent in mid September 2025. Chiquitín claimed non receipt of the new booking. Anyway, let’s say that there was a disconnect. The challenge is how to solve the problem for the customer. The front desk person made herself scarce. We had to physically search for her in the backend to ring us a cab. Additionally, several customers arrive to eat at their restaurant and they had to leave even though a lady told me that they had reservations for the service. In short, book at Chiquitín at your own risk. Our booking agent, found another better appointed hotel down the road which also has an elevator. Too bad about Chiquitín, I did not believe the poor reviews and wanted to proof them wrong. Well I was wrong, this accommodation is no longer reliable.
