Rathdowne Village Delicatessen

When I first walked into Rathdowne Deli, it was like walking into my grandfather's shop. I was cheerfully greeted by the owner, an old school Aussie who's always happy to have a chat and remembers all his regular customers. I found shelves on the right that housed select brands of condiments, pasta, muesli, biscuits and other products that you might not find in your regular supermarket. Right at the back are benches where you can sit down to have a coffee and a bite while reading the paper, relaxing and pondering what to do with the rest of your day. In fact the owners and/or employees are very likely to sit down and have their home cooked lunch right next to you. One of my top spots to grab a coffee and a bite to eat in Carlton North is Rathdowne Deli. As a dedicated fan of toasties, I can confidently say that you won't find a better one than what they serve here. My go-to is the ham, cheese, and pickles combo. The staff are always friendly and accommodating, especially the guy with the man-bun who makes a mean cup of coffee. Every visit guarantees excellent service. Don't miss out on this gem!

A relaxing place where you can sit down and enjoy a light snack and coffee. They have newspapers and magazines on the table, which is great if you're dropping by alone. The lamingtons here are amazing! They're made in house several times a day, and if you happen to come in right after they're freshly dipped then you're in for a real treat!

Great little find!. Such a lovely place to relax and have a bite to eat and a drink salted caramel donuts, salted caramel milkshakes, gourmet sandwiches... then try and walk out without buying something from the delicious deli range!

A quite place to get lunch. Although there is a reasonably large selection of toasted sandwiches and rolls to choose from, the food here is pretty basic...saying that I enjoy coming here every now and again, as the owner is lovely and loves to have a chat, and i can read the paper while I wait for my sandwich to toast.
