This cozy restaurant by the water was a pleasant surprise. While the outside tables were a bit chilly for our liking tonight, the indoor seating was comfortable. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious. View all feedback.
What Mireille Deckow doesn't like about Bababoi Kitchen & Bar:
I had a craving for lorbak, and google showed that Bababoi offered this on their menu. We ordered prawn fritters, lorbak, otak otak, and tofu kerabu salad to share between two people. I had high hopes for this Malaysian kitchen but was unfortunately disappointed with...the food. Not authentic enough to satisfy my Malaysian food cravings do not think I will be returning. I recently visited Bababoi, a Nonya restaurant tucked away near The World Trade Centre, opposite South wharf.
Don’t order the mee goreng, acar on pancake or Teh tarik. Order the hee Jieh. Sambal long beans ikan goreng (disappointingly come as fillets rather than whole) are ok.
Good food, reasonable priced, great location, friendly staff, Takeaway and eat in, outside tables uncomfortable.
The food at this restaurant was delicious, with well-balanced spices and flavors. My chicken curry was aromatic, while my partner's mee goreng had a satisfying level of spiciness. The restaurant is a hidden gem located behind an apartment block entrance. To find it, go towards the footbridge that crosses over the river to the Melbourne events center. It's definitely worth the effort to find this hidden spot.
Was a miserable night weather wise, so we didn’t want to venture far from our accommodation. Plan was to order takeaway . Found this place on our way to another restaurant nearby, stopped to check out the menu ended up staying for dinner. It...is a small, unassuming home in the wall literally. Furniture is ver basic, but and you would be forgiven if you walked past as it doesn’t really make much of an impact upon presentation. (We actually initially thought it was the kebab place next to it is obsessed with kebabs). Had it not been pelting down with rain, I will confidently say that we would not have looked at this place. Negatives first: Only one person working there at the time we arrived, so despite us being the only crazies out in a storm, service was a little slow... but given her was waiter, bar tender chef server, he did really well. That’s it for the negatives Positives: Food. Really really good food. And LOTS of it! So much so that we ended up taking it away having leftovers for dinner the next night (which I still couldn’t finish Hubby went back for more roti to have with his leftovers. who is going through an “I’m not eating phase” absolutely scoffed her dinner. has a nut allergy, our host/chef/waiter was very happy to accommodate this. Really grateful for the horrible weather, or we would never have found this place!
