While the restaurant is praised for its flavorful dishes and friendly service, some diners express concerns regarding the vegan-friendliness of the menu. Although many items can be customized to exclude fish sauce or egg, the lack of clear vegetarian markings and staff's varying knowledge about vegan diets can create uncertainty. Overall, with its inviting ambiance and reasonable prices, Tom Yum Koong remains a popular choice, particularly during lunch hours, making it a worthwhile visit for Thai food enthusiasts.
Friendly staff, fast service, good eating, relaxed vibes, tons vegan options (although the menu is not marked).) would definitely go back when I am in the opposite
You have been going to this place for years, no matter who is on the waiting staff, everyone seems to understand what vegan means when it comes to Thai cuisine.
This place is over the street from my house and is a nice option to have sauce, but I prefer to place where vegan is better understood (yak yeti or better, to all-vegan true bistro, both in east somerville.) while it is true that tom yum koong has many tofu and sweet options, are not vegetarian-liked and they do not seem to understand the vegan food I have nothing against English-as-Second-Language folks, but if they don't know the mind vegan, then it can be difficult to really know whether what they say is vegetarian is actually vegan or not (especially since so many people consider fish as vegetarian I have naturally tried over fish in the dressing I have tried (masaman curry, panangry) I'm just not highly rated because I don't consider them very vegan-friendly.
I ordered the delivery of grubhub several times. they are usually either fast or early, eating is delicious, and their tofu is prepared as if they know what they are doing. I found her crispy tofu to have much too much brot for my lust and her tofu teriyaki is a tacky gland, but her nude dishes never disappointed. I'm a frequent customer!
We've eaten at Tom Yum Koong in Medford twice now, and have been very pleased both times. The food is just-right Thai spicy, the vegetables are very fresh, and the staff is very willing to accommodate vegans. When we asked about ingredients in one of the meals, the waitress quickly checked with the chef to be sure. The soup we ordered was made with a veggie broth, all of the curry dishes have a tofu and vegetables option, and there are a number of other tofu dishes on the menu. In addition, it seems most items can be made vegetarian available upon request as the menu states. We requested no fish sauce and no egg when we ordered, just to be safe. Our waitress was very friendly and filled our water glasses several times during the meal. The prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. An added bonus is that if you go during lunch (before 3 pm), you can get just-slightly-smaller portions at a considerably lower price. The restaurant is bright and clean. The bathrooms were clean. Parking is on the street which wasn't a problem for us, but might be difficult during busy times in Medford.
