Foxy - Mcleansboro
Foxy
Description
Tucked into a converted bank in Mcleansboro, this small-town spot serves satisfying homestyle dishes—standout burger, broccoli salad, fish and frog legs—in a charming, historic setting locals love. Servers are friendly and food is often fresh, but patrons note slow service, frequent menu stockouts and occasional order errors. A brusque owner and inconsistent availability temper the experience: worth visiting for the flavor and atmosphere, but expect unpredictability and exercise caution when dining with family.

The food is average, exactly what you'd expect. However, the owner is quite rude, which makes me unlikely to return, especially with my kids or family. There are plenty of better family-friendly options available. As for kid-friendliness, the owner doesn't seem to favor any age group—he treats everyone poorly.
This was our first time at Foxy's. I believe it used to be a bank because if you see the photos, there is a big safe behind the counter. Anyway, the food was just okay. There was no butter for the rolls, and the rolls seemed to be what you buy in a bag at the grocery store, and our salt shaker was empty. The place is old, obviously, but it was fairly clean. Just three stars, however. It's a unique place, and the locals seem to love it. My wife had the chicken fried steak plate, and it was okay. She ordered broccoli salad as one of her sides, and it was outstanding. I had the meatloaf, and it wasn't bad. It had a good flavor. The service was the best thing about the place and it got crowded, really crowded before we left.If this review was helpful, please give me a thumbs up.
First time going and needs another visit in the rather near future. To start myself mine had fried green tomatoes fried mac n cheese then, my daughter had the chicken quesadilla fries, my fiancé had 8oz steak loaded bake potato, myself had frog legs bacon ranch pasta. Food was phenomenal. I've only had great frog legs at one other restaurant and sadly the owner passed away, this was years ago when I was a teenager, I'm 35 now. If you're any where near McLeansboro IL, absolutely stop by Foxy.
Burger is not hand padded but it's good quality and cooked perfectly. The baked potato (after 4pm) is a huge bonus rather than fries. Coffee was good enough for drip. The service was excellent. Polite, professional and prompt. Normally the food would be a 4 star but the service made up for it.
