Our waiter was friendly and attentive; however a lady at the next table was repeatedly overlooked. No one came to take her order until we stepped in and pointed it out to our waiter. It wasnt his table, but hello! If we noticed it, he should have too. There was a manager who cruised through several times, but he never actually talked to a customer. What was his purpose? Checking the alignment of the salt and pepper shakers? Also the food selections seem reduced from last year. Overall disappointing.
Great food in wonderful atmosphere. Sunday brunch is pricey but worth it! International college students serving were interesting to chat with and very congenial. A definite must when visiting Chautauqua!
My husband and I celebrate each anniversary at the The Hierloom. We couldn't think of any other restaurant for the special occasion. Our meals are always very memorable. The service is perfect and, lastly, either seated in the historic dining room or the vast summer porch, we are treated to beautiful views of peaceful Lake Chatauqua.
Food was awful. Mixed bean Escarole Cassoulet entree had no beans/escarole... was pretty much a side portion of squash and a smidgen of tofu in tomato sauce with cheese on top. The Duck a l 'Orange/Confit Duck Leg had maybe a teaspoon of confit, if any, and no sauce. Server was totally charming but had zero knowledge of the menu and wines. Incredibly over priced. Feel like someone stole my money. Only go there if you are completely desperate for the ambiance. Really just too bad they can 't get anything together, given the grandeur of the hotel. If the Athenaeum Hotel does not want to be in the food and beverage business they should just close the space and turn it into hotel rooms. Truly enjoyed everything at the Intermezzo Restaurant and 2 Ames.
We've dined on the veranda before and had another wonderful experience. The food was excellent, which we were really pleased about. We were also glad that we chose not to eat inside, as the buffet area was loud and crowded. Instead, we spent an hour in the lobby and on the surrounding porch, where we discovered a great option of enjoying the bar and ordering dinner. They serve it at the various tables available, creating a relaxed atmosphere. We met many interesting people there, making for some casual encounters while sharing the seating areas.
