Magee's Bakery - Maysville

I frequently visit the business district, and I've often been recommended to try the bakery that specializes in those clear cakes. Well, I finally discovered it, and they are absolutely delicious! It's no surprise that George Clooney frequents the place. What sets these translucent cakes apart? It's all about the ingredients—or the simplicity of them. They have a flavor reminiscent of a sugar cookie, but in a delightful cake form. The individual cakes are perfect for one person, but they also offer larger options for small groups. While they do have other baked goods, let's be honest: you come here for the cakes. The staff is very friendly, and I’ll definitely be stopping by here occasionally!

I grew up in Maysville, so I’ve always known Magee's when it was located on Market Street. Saturdays were a special treat, as they involved a trip to the library followed by a stop at the bakery for a transparent pudding or cream horn. Now that I live in Nashville, Tennessee, a visit to Maysville still isn’t complete without stopping by Magee's Bakery. Although the bakery has moved, the quality and taste remain as exceptional as ever. It seems that transparent puddings and tarts are still a local specialty, as I can't find them anywhere else. They’ve gained some fame worldwide, partly thanks to George Clooney's fondness for this rich dessert. Growing up in the area, he’s known to have them shipped to his homes or movie locations for a taste of nostalgia. For me, they also represent a little piece of home.

My favorite bakery! Just a quick 2 miles off the AA Highway in Orangeburg, Kentucky, and it's definitely worth the stop. The Cream-Filled Horns are the best I've ever tasted, and the variety of cookies and Cinnamon Crisps are simply amazing. I give it five stars every time!

I'm from Maysville and I ate the Tarts all my life. Now live in Cincinnati, and if I need a tart repair, I sent it to me....Not like that. When my uncle died, the family put a tart in his coffin, he loved her like that. True story.

Always happy with my purchases from Magee's. Transparent tarts are my favorite! Wonderful bakery!!
