Fun to say it because this unique restaurant is located deep into an old cave. Finely structured and decorated. Contemporary but classic. Down at the lowest floor you’ll find a mini golf placed right around the soul of the cave. A lounge bar is located at the middle floor. We’re spending the whole day since the morning walking trough this enchanted and ancient town. Up and down to the stones scales, sightseeing the canyon, the cave houses, the old and the new constructions of Matera. Being thrilled at every corner deep in the beauty of this UNESCO Historic Patrimony. After all, a great topic dinner was all we wanted. As a starter we’ve got “polpettine di pane ripiene di salsicce pezzenti al sugo di pomodoro e basilico”, we all loved it! My husband and I had chosen 2 kinds of pasta: “orecchiette di grano arso con salsicce pezzenti” and “fagottini ripieni di burratta in letto di rucola e salsa al pomodoro”. An explosion of flavors! Simply delicious! Our kids (3 and 8) had pizza margherita and pizza patatosa (Margherita with homemade fries in the top). The dough is made of the fusion of two kinds of homemade sour dough, so is absolutely not heavy and easy to digest! An expresso and an Amaro Lucano to finish our journey and we’re all set to go back. Price was completely fair in our opinion. 19’ Buca for us was a great experience. Homemade, tasteful, genuine.

As we always look for the places off the beaten path, when we saw the sign for the 19a Buca Winery? and the stairs leading below the city, we knew we had found our place. As you walk into the restaurant you are struck by how far below you are going into the actual caves. The staff were wonderful and very welcoming and very happy to answer our questions about the menu and food. Our waitress made several recommendations which we were happy to try and we were very glad we did. We would highly recommend this restaurant.
