It’s easy to overlook Balter if you’re not aware of its location due to its narrow exterior, so don’t drive past it! Inside, it's surprisingly spacious and boasts a fantastic menu. The owners are incredibly friendly, and the food is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the Eggs Benedict and the Peace Chicken Burger. The chef has a talent for selecting wonderful aromas that enhance the dishes. I hear the menu will soon expand into new offerings, which I’m excited to try. Just a heads up, this isn't fast food, so be sure to set aside enough time to savor the experience. The prices on the menu are quite reasonable for the quality of food you receive. Balter is a fantastic reason to visit Carterton!

The team at Balter creates dishes that you simply can't replicate at home, all in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Be sure to try their signature dishes; the foam cheese lives up to its name and is bursting with flavor. If you love desserts, you may never want to leave this place! They were very attentive to all food allergies and even prepared a brand new dessert for me when they realized their current options wouldn't meet my needs. I can't recommend this place enough!

The new BBQ menu was outstanding; we shared the short ribs and pork ribs, and they were delicious, especially paired with the sides and seasonal vegetables. My gin cocktail was also very tasty. For dessert, we chose from the 'regular' menu and both went for the cheesecake. It was quite impressive—super tasty without being overly sweet. I highly recommend this place, even for those who are gluten-free!

The staff were amazing, and our waitress had us all laughing. The atmosphere is great, and they even cater to kids, which was perfect since we had our two boys with us. We really appreciated the lollies you gave them as a treat for their good manners at the end of the night! The food was delicious, and that lemon posset? Oh my goodness, I loved it! I highly recommend that dessert—can I please have the recipe, haha? It was a perfect way to end a workday for my partner and his colleague. We were fortunate to find this place while looking for dinner since we’re from Rotorua. Spotting Balter and choosing to come in was a great decision! I would recommend it to anyone visiting Carterton. Thanks for a wonderful evening from all the way in Rotorua!

I've visited this restaurant many times and have always enjoyed great service and food, but on Valentine's Day, the meal was outstanding. The atmosphere, complete with music, roses, and a complimentary cocktail, truly elevated the entire experience. It exceeded all my expectations—simply flawless!

We loved the little touches in the decor the games available to while away a couple of hours. We visited with family and the menu had great choices for everyone. The main menu has sharing plates ranging from pork belly, lamb tacos to squid. All cooked beautifully. The steaks burgers were also cooked to request and were enjoyed by all. There is a good choice of beer wine. This is a great addition to Carterton and we will definitely come back next time we visit NZ. Thank you!
