We fell in love with the mozzarella and bacon rolls last year so we ordered a portion each to start. Good idea but you get 5 in a serving and they're far to good to waste. Then the pizza, giant things with plenty of toppings (I've never seen capers in such quantity). Too much for me. Justice could not be done. Then the pizza, giant things with plenty of toppings (I've never seen capers in such quantity). Too much for me. Justice could not be done. There is a generosity of spirit in the food served at Possilipo, it's not high end catering but it's really well worth a visit, if only for the mozzarella and bacon served lightly singed from the wood fired oven. Decent jug wine which I think has changed since my last visit. Everybody else seemed to be drinking beer.
The initial impression is misleading as the plastic tables outside belie the splendid linen tablecloths and napkins on the laid up tables inside. Not pretentious but smart. The open pizza oven provides everything from the delicious pizzas to the incredibly moreish starter of small balls of scamorza cheese wrapped in pancetta and briefly roasted; just enough to start to char the edges of the meat. The white pizza option makes a change from the traditional tomato sauced version but beware, it's very rich, making the San Daniel topped pizza hard to finish. The jug wine is chilled and eminently drinkable at a totally ridiculous 4.50€ a litre.
We just stopped by this pizzeria as my wife liked the look of it when we were walking past last week. We sat outside on the pavement and ordered 3 pizzas and a bottle of water. Service was quick and our pizzas arrived in 5 minutes. I had a pizza napoli, as ever, and it was great. Hayley had a diavola and she said the salami on it was excellent and Georgia ate a margherita, well 3/4 of it as it was very filling, and it even had fresh basil on it. The pizza bases were thicker than we usually see in Martina Franca but absolutely delicious. Slightly chewy crust with a really well developed flavor. When I went in to pay the bill the owner told me they were not typical of the area rather they were traditional pizza in the Napoli style. I can not confirm this as I have never been to Naples but they were really very good. While inside I noticed the quality of the ingredients looked very fresh and top quality. All in all it was the best pizzas we have have had in Martina Franca and will be making it our regular pizza spot from now on. Even better the bill was just €18 for three pizzas and a bottle of water, including the cover charge. Less than McDonalds and 500 times better.
Ottima pizza, ingredienti genuini, e ampia scelta.
Pizza leggerissima e saporita. Servizio cordiale e celere. Ci torneremo senz'altro.
