Our favorite restaurant in Marseille, where we lived in the last 4 months. Great food, affordable prices, super nice waiting staff (which I say look like Casey Affleck and a young, handomer James Woods). We will be sad to return to the United States because such places. But we're coming back! View all feedback.

Famous about this friendly and welcoming Mediterranean family restaurant in Marseille. Absolutely favorite place we have eaten in the last 5 nights in France. Our group does not speak well French and our waitress knew only a few words in English, but she did every attempt to explain the meals. The food was absolutely delicious and very cheap. I had the nightly special with a large bottle of foam water for 10 euros. They were very accommodating and welcome at our party of 7.
Wonderful food and extremely friendly staff! I ordered the cousin with fish and one of the four waiters helped me to eat it. The taste was great and the fish was perfectly cooked! I asked for a Zalabia for Dessert (it is my favorite), who helped the older Lord very happy me, but much to our shame they were out! I tried a rolled Baklava and mint tea that were very good. Then when I paid the older gentleman, a fresh zalabia brought me that he had made the kitchen! It was so sweet! It felt like I was with a family member. The restaurant was full and it seemed like the staff almost knew everyone who came through the door. Only FYI, very little English is spoken in the restaurant (and my French is pretty bad), the younger waiter told me everything that was very nice of him. I sat myself and the older gentleman sat with me, even though we had a language barrier. I recommend this restaurant! Merci beaucoup!
Another Tunisian restaurant, another jewel in the middle of Marseille. You get your money. You can order couscous with different types of meat and you also get a bowl of broth with vegetables and chickpeas. They all sort or eat them separately. The meal is accompanied with water, a hot bath ( sauce) and bread. The staff is very friendly. Without knowing a single word of French or Arabic, you can easily communicate. Do not miss the experience of eating in this restaurant!
After doing some research on Yelp prior to visiting Marseille, I bookmarked Sur le Pouce as an inexpensive option for a good meal in a non tourist area away from the Vieux Port. We stopped in for lunch today before heading to the airport. It's definitely a hole in the wall. Hospitality though was excellent! We were given fresh baked bread with a spicy red sauce (similar to Harrisa) to start. The gentleman serving was eager to take our order so without thinking too much about it, my husband ordered the lamb coucous on his recommendation and I ordered the chicken tangine. My husband loved his meal! He received a full plate of couscous, a large lamb shank on the side, and a soup broth which was spiced and perfect for dipping bread in with vegetables. The lamb was very tender and flavorful. The chicken tangine was delicious as well. The chicken was bone in so there were times I had to pull them out of my mouth. The meat, however, was tender and seasoned well. The seasoned rice, peas, and potatoes/onion mix served on the side were all tasty, although I would have liked more spice. This was by far our cheapest meal in Marseille clocking in at 19 euros. I do have to dock a star for the bathroom no soap and no toilet paper. Luckily I caught both of those things before actually using it. Other than that, I'd highly recommend a visit here to experience a less touristy and more authentic meal in Marseille!
