4.3 / 5 (6305 reviews)

Description

A historic spot in Marquette, Donckers offers mixed reviews. Some praise the sweet offerings and friendly staff, while others complain about high prices and slow service. The charming atmosphere and diverse menu options make it a decent pit stop for tourists, but locals are less impressed. The accessibility of the restaurant receives criticism, with limited parking and stairs posing challenges. The consensus is that Donckers is worth a visit for its unique character and sweet treats, but improvements in pricing and service are needed to win over repeat customers.

We had a delightful breakfast in a stunning location. We're really looking forward to returning when we visit the U.P. again!

I don't quite understand what all the excitement is for. The food was expensive and very lacking in flavor.

Vegan options include dark chocolate covered fruits and nuts, dark chocolate dipped oreos, and gummy fruit slices. Staff were friendly and helpful. Updated from previous review on 2023-08-13

I requested a dressing on the side to add some flavor to my sandwich. Vegans should double-check that their selected bread is dairy-free, as most of the options, including the sourdough, contain dairy. I opted for the ciabatta for my sandwich, and it was quite good. However, vegans and vegetarians must also verify that their dressing is suitable, as many contain anchovies—even the ones you might not expect. As of now, the only completely vegan dressings are the balsamic vinaigrette and the Mediterranean. Service was quite slow; even after arriving around 1:30 on a weekday, post-lunch rush, we waited over an hour for our food. On the positive side, they do provide an allergen menu detailing the ingredients in most items, which I appreciate and will add a star for. They also have a decent array of options for vegetarians.

Cute old building. Great food service. I had the garden hash (I think that’s what it was called not on the menu I see online). Perfect hash browns with grilled zucchini, broccoli, tomatoes and onions. Just had to order without the pesto mayo eggs. Really good locally sourced jam. Lots of locally sourced items on the menu. My non vegan husband loved his food, too. Updated from previous review on 2023 05 13
