Without a reservation, we took a chance for Sunday lunch. had a little wait but we could tell from the friendly staff who would not seat us at a table on the blazing sun and the food being delivered to table that we had come to a wonderful restaurant. The restaurant is located either side of the street in the small fishing village of Porto di Maratea. We ordered a bottle of the house white, which was perfectly fine, although an ice bucket would have been welcome. I ordered what turned out to be a wonderful antipasti of grilled fresh seafood, including exquisitely grilled fresh octopus, mussels, clams, and large prawns. The best I’ve tasted. I followed with paccheri with mussels, clams, and prawns in a tasty tomato sauce. Again, unbeatable. My wife had fruit di mare salad, which she said was lovely. We were about to order dolce. However, a wonderful young couple seated one an adjacent table were served a. Rey decorative cake. She was pregnant and after a brief conversation in broken Italian and English they told us that they were celebrating their first anniversary. We told them we were celebrating our 48th. Within minutes, our server reappeared and was soon handing us each a piece of the cake with the compliments of the kind young couple. Turns out she was the nephew of the owners. What a way for us to top off a lovely meal. That’s Italy for you. Friendly, family oriented folks. What a wonderful way to spend a lovely sunny afternoon by the sea in Basilicata. Will we return? You know the answer.
We passed by and it looked lovely and the restaurant had so good reputation so we desired to go. It’s just the worst feeling you can get. Chaotic situation with the waitress and the food was switched and the taste was so disappointing from what we have got the other days in this area. It just ruled out night ....
We are a couple in our 70’s from the UK. We drove from our home in Cornwall to Italy. We have been here over 2 1/2 weeks. Today Fathers Day in UK and we had money from our children to have lunch to celebrate. Look no further than 1999. We had an amazing lunch as guided by le patron. He guided us for our food and wine. The end result a memorable day and a recommendation to anyone to partake at 1999.
A coastal village restaurant specializing in pasta, and very good pasta at that. I think the carbonara is made to order. It took them over 30 minutes for the first and only course: spaghetti carbonara, which was amazing—the best carbonara my daughter has ever had, wow! For my part, the Bolognese wasn't as special... but it was good. We would definitely go back. But knowing that it's a slow burn...
A nice covered patio to dine under, with a view to the little port, or what actually is a marina. Grilled Amberjack fillets and a side of oven baked red onions from Tropea. All very tasty. You pay a little more due to location, but that’s okay. The service is excellent!! It’s evident that this is a family run business.
