Description

Perched in a scenic South Island spot with a sunny terrace and fantastic views, this lively restaurant delivers bold, well-executed flavors and attentive service. Standout dishes and a warm, wood‑fired atmosphere make it a favorite for lunch, dinner and group outings — even dog owners are welcome. However, many plates are modestly portioned and prices are steep; a few items felt over‑styled or underwhelming. Expect convivial, sometimes noisy communal dining and excellent drinks alongside occasional value concerns.

Our best lunch experience so far after 3 weeks on the South Island. Friendly and fast service. The fish soup was super fresh and well seasoned. The curry had more of a soup consistency, but the taste was great. It's nice to sit on the terrace. Absolutely recommended! We had just arrived in NZ and were excited for our first meal at a nice restaurant. Sadly, arriving at 7pm meant we were one of the last arrivals on a busy Friday night (do Kiwis eat early? . We waited 45minutes for our food and while the fish was beautifully cooked, the pasta alla Norma was tasteless and barely a piece of eggplant in sight. I would have told the wait staff had anyone come by to serve us. In the end we got up to pay and leave. when I told the staff that I couldn’t eat my meal I was asked why I hadn’t said anything to the front of house. I would have if anyone had served us. Too busy and overpriced for the what it was. A pity to start our much anticipated trip in this way.

No table service and horrid cocktails. 4.30pm today, waited to be seated, no menus came over after 10 minutes so hubby went inside and got one. Waited again and no one came to take our drinks order so hubby went inside to order and pay for them. Our two pina coladas came out lovely pineapple glasses, the drinks are awful. Someone's put hardly any pineapple juice in it and used a lot of water. Its like alcohol and water, not at all like a pina colada should be. We had a really nice day and didn't want it ruined by having to complain if you didn't have the right ingredients or didn't know how to make them you should have just said and we would have ordered something else. Its a real shame as the venue looks lovely now but nothing else matched.
