I always enjoy when I come here. the waiting staff is super friendly and accommodating. my only wish is a better veggie burger. with all the brands out there, they still serve dr. praegers, which just falls on them. that's my only complaint. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about St James's Gate Publick House:
a waiter flew me on the hand to talk to him. I tried to get entertaining his attention, as I tried to pay for the register card of another family on the way. I apologised several times, although I didn't think I did something wrong, but he continued. I felt borderline physically threatened. I worked in this business and would never miss a waiter, a busboy or literally another person. it is not the kind of person I am... View all feedback.
A friendly comfortable pub with a broad eclectic variety of beers on tap and very good pub food. Favorites are the St James Burger and the Mussels- always order the chips.
I hosted my 4 year olds birthday party here during non peak hours. The theme was Christmas. The Gate's staff made sure we had THE BEST time. We has Santa show up and the owners could not have been nicer and/or more accommodating. They even took a picture with Santa. Thank you all so much for making this party so memorable.
Good pint of Guinness. Corned beef Reuben is my goto.
We decided to stop here for a sit-down bite to eat (we've never gone wrong with any Irish pub in North Jersey before) but I must say, I was very disappointed that I paid $62 to eat here. The food was extremely bland and not something I'd recommend to anyone who's loves a good Pub to eat at. I had the Bangers and Mash and my girlfriend had the Buffalo chicken Mac n cheese, two things that you'd think would be at least decent. The service was okay, it was a busy day and I do not fault them for any slow service. This is also my first Yelp review, if that tells you anything.
Let's start with the goods shall we? Great downtown location; nearby parking; extremely friendly staff. My boyfriend and I ordered LA's Crock of Cheese as an appetizer. Our dining mates went with chicken tenders (which I might add, looked like ready-to-eat tenders that had been microwaved). What arrived was an abomination of my tastebuds. If you had showed me a 6 year old was in the kitchen churning out orders, I wouldn't have been surprised. This excuse for a lunchable was the crock of cheese ! I'm not the person to send food back or cause a scene about my order, but this deserved it. Instead, I was shocked into silence. I could not, and STILL can not believe that they were willingly serving this. My entree was Shepherd's Pie. The #1 thing going for it was the tongue searing temperature. I'm known for liking my food HOT, but this was HOT until the very last bite. Perhaps, too hot then? It was edible but nothing to rave about. Overall, this entire experience was disappointing.
