Fenton River Grill - Mansfield

We were in a bit of a bind and needed to eat after a baptism, and since our usual go-to restaurants were unexpectedly closed for the long Fourth of July weekend, we ended up here. The vegan chocolate cake was absolutely delicious and priced at $21. It was rich and satisfying, but I was glad I also ordered the garlicky greens as a side dish. They were made vegan per my request, as they usually include butter. I agree with others that this place could improve its vegan options, but at least they were willing to accommodate my dietary needs. The service was quite slow considering there were only three tables, including ours, and two servers. I'm glad I finally got to try the chocolate cake. My non-vegan family members who live nearby may not be interested in this place, but they mentioned that many others they know are.

I recently tried Sister Restaurant The Dog Lane at UConn, but I found that I prefer the latter, Via Fenton! My non-veg family enjoys this place, but as a vegan, I had trouble finding good menu options. However, I would highly recommend the Brussels sprouts appetizer.

The printed menu, not the online menu, marked clearly vegetarian dishes with a V. Make sure that dishes such as Brussels spices and the Tofu Vegetable Rice dish lack a V for a reason. I learned from a hostess that is randomly a vegetarian that the Brussels sprouts are made with fish sauce, so you can accept the same for the rice dish. They would expect so much in a Thai restaurant, but not in a restaurant serving Standard American Fare. While the roasted potatoes are marked with a V, are they roasted in the same oil as meat and fish? In any case, this is an outstanding dish that is clearly called Vegan, the Vegan Shepherd's Pie. I would describe it more interesting than very good. Sister Restaurant by Hund Lane in uconn, but I think I prefer the latter via fenton! my non-veg family loves this place, but I had difficulty finding good vegan menu options. would recommend the brussels sprouts app though!
