This little restaurant is far from fancy but the food are super authentic. All the food had been cooked by Japanese chef, the freshness was no question. The best of it was we didnt pay to eat overloaded mayonnaise like other restaurants. Well plated and the flavor were well balanced. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Chidori Japanese Restaurant:
Had takeout for a family dinner, so chose a range of meals. The meal sizes were enough for six adults to pick and choose from, but there were no leftovers (my favourite part of takeout). 45 minute wait to pick up food on a Friday night. Sushi and edamame was good. The curries and fish dishes were ok. Everyone enjoyed the takoyaki. There was nothing bad about the meals but nothing excellent either. Will probably try a... Fantastic Japanese food Only a small restaurant but great atmosphere and the food speaks for itself Some of the best I have had.
An Uber driver told us about this gem of a spot, 25 minutes closer to home than a Japanese restaurant (much nearer the city) that we've visited every month or two for years. After experiencing lunch at Chidori we won't need to make that trip any more. The edamame bean entree was the tastiest we've had anywhere, super fresh, juicy and big on taste. We've had them many times before elsewhere, and these were in a class of their own (I know, they're a really low-tech item, just heated beans with salt, but the flavour and freshness of these made me wonder what was wrong with the others we'd tried elsewhere.)The gyoza were similarly delicious - nicely cooked, great flavour, tasty sauce. Both mains - a salmon dish and a seafood noodle hot pot - were also really, really good.Service was excellent, as were the prices. If there's a clue to how good this place is, the couple at the next table had dined there the previous day!Places like Chidori are a reminder that the suburbs can hide great food at excellent prices.

It's not always the case that you can eat at a Japanese restaurant that actually has a Japanese chef! I have eaten at many of chef Tanaka's restaurants and he never fails to impress. I definitely recommend the sushi rolls. I tried the salmon and avocado and the salmon aburi rolls - both delicious and generous for $10. The agedashi tofu and the miso fish special were also full of flavour. You can byo wine too. Staff friendly, small no. of tables so recommend booking to avoid disappointment.
Four of us ventured along to Chidori and after reading previous reviewswe were really surprised - the food was great! We shared 3 entrees and 2 mains and there was plenty of food. Service was friendly and the prices really make it a cheap night out. BYO accepted - get along and give it a go!
