One of the very best fish fry locations in the north woods. Served family style with lots of sides to please all in the family, and the best tartar sauce from Blue Bayou!!! Not much of a physical setting, but very good service and excellent food. View all feedback.
What Scott B doesn't like about Broken Oar Saloon:
IF you want to WAIT for 1.5 HOURS just to be seated, then another 45 minutes to receive your food... then THIS is your place!! What a joke. Under-Staffed, slow, and unorganized are some very applicable words for this Mistake of a dinner selection... DON'T DO IT. You WILL be sorry. View all feedback.
Everything I hoped for in a Northwoods dive! Friendly service, great jukebox, friendly people, cold beer and a true Northwoods atmosphere. You can't judge a book by it's cover. When you look at this place from the road it looks rundown. Please, go in and enjoy! The bartender/ server /cook was awesome. We had a party of 15 with a lot if kids. He didn't even flinch. We were patient and took advantage of the $0.25 PBR draws, the Foosball table, the pool table and the jukebox. We ordered the special Duck Wonton special. They were delicious! Most of us ordered the fish fry and some pizzas. The tarter sauce was from the Blue Bayou I love it when local places work together . The potato salad and coleslaw were delicious. The fish was great! My father in law chose the walleye basket instead of the usual fish fry. All was very good, but he said that the walleye was as good as you can get outside of a shore lunch. The only wish for this place is for them to be able to incorporate a separate server. This guy busts his butt and does a great job. We come to Manitowish Waters once a year and if I lived here I would come here weekly. Great job, Broken Oar!
Great place. Jeff really cares about his customers. Usually a nice casual spot to grab a fish fry and a beer (and they have a few good ones on tap), but on some nights (New Years eve, 4th of July) they throw awesome parties with live music.
Came here with my family for Friday fish fry after reading (and hearing) numerous good reviews, and we were not disappointed. I ordered the all you can eat fried haddock and selected the coleslaw, french fries and baked beans for my sides. The fish came out a short time later and was lightly battered and well seasoned. The sides were all outstanding, homemade and delicious as was the tartar sauce. The baked beans were a stand out, with some hints of bbq and smokey goodness. My companions tried the garlic mashed potatoes and potato salad and enjoyed both as well. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance of the restaurant was that of an old time Wisconsin eatery. We had a great time, left stuffed, and felt we paid a very reasonable price. This will be a new regular stop. Thanks!
Fish fry on wed fri...bring friends. Family style, all you can eat!
We did the fish fry for adults and pizza for the kids. Kids loved the pizza (which isn't always the case). We got a large for 4 small kids and the center got a bubble and collapsed so they cooked another small pizza for no charge. The kids devoured everything. They liked it so much we are ordering a few pizzas for takeout today. The fish fry came with family style appetizers coke slaw, excellent beans (a nice mixture) garlic mashed potatoes, and crunchy french fries. We were split between getting fried walleye, baked walleye and the all you can eat fried haddock. To give an example of the great service apparently the chef dropped one piece of my baked walleye so he fried up a few more pieces as a quick add on. Which was perfect since I had a hard time deciding. It was a great family meal and the kids were kept entertained with the foosball table. There was also a pool table by the bar and jukebox. Definitely a thumbs up for the Northwoods.
