There were many Chinese restaurants to choose from in this part of Manchester, given that we were in China Town! However as a tourist they all looked the same and had similar prices so we referred to TripAdvisor and were not disappointed. At the moment...Middle Kingdom is hidden under a scaffolded clad building but is a spacious restaurant. We dined at about 5 o’clock so we’re not surprised that not many tables were... What Yvonne Adams doesn't like about Middle Kingdom:
Horrendous, extremely slow service, wrong meals served, cold food, brought in dribs and drabs, people eating at different times, the restaurant had no heating. Really sorry but won't be coming back. View all feedback.
Friend recommended this place. Friendly and helpful waiting staff, friendly boss. Amazzzzing good value food. This seafood platter was could have fed more people. Was told to book hours in advance next time so they can make sure they have to seafood in...fresh. Because we didn't know and just turned up the staff went out and bought it in straight away at Very impressed will be back soon.
Food is the most authentic within manchester city center as recognized by me, a girl from chengdu and staff are very welcome. Have visited many times and will do again.
Wouldn't honour Dine voucher from Three's Wuntu app. Really disappointed as wanted to try the food. It is meant to be off Sun-Thur. Tonight is Monday. First they said they didn't do offers at all when I rang to book and mentioned Dine. Then...when pushed they said it would only be discount. I reiterated that was their weekend discount and that it was false advertising to say on Wuntu Sun-Thur if that wasn't true, but they wouldn't change their stance. Sadly they have missed out on my custom now and potentially in the future.
Last time we ate here, it was quite a disappointing experience with the food lacking the flavours you expect from Sichuan food. In truth we didn’t intend to return but our search for another Sichuan place didn’t turn up anywhere without appallingly low “scores on...the doors” from the food hygiene people. Why such places are allowed to continue trading beats me. So, it was a few minutes walk from Chinatown down Princess Street for dinner. We stuck to the tried and trusted dishes we’ve ordered in the past, both of them Sichuan classics. That’s the green beans with chilli and little nuggets of pork and gong bao chicken. No complaints about the food this time but service was awful. My partner had ordered the green beans and was able to get stuck in. But there was no sign of my chicken. Eventually it turned up. By then the rice, already claggy, was barely warm. Maybe we’re just not feted to enjoy Sichuan food in the city any more.
Feeling very adventurous after ordering ‘numbing beef’. Very substantial dishes so over ordered. Highlight was the sea bass, great big flavours. The beef was full of chilli, wonderful broth. The pork belly on pickled vegetables was full of flavour but not to my taste. Very...helpful and informative staff Not in main china town but certainly worth seeking out
