I went there last night (October 2019). The food was incredibly expensive (4 for a very small portion of fries, a sausage and a very small pot of curry sauce). The curry sauce was disgusting and knew vomiting and the staff member did not close it properly, so everything was spilled when I got home. The man at the counter was rude and unfriendly and I regretted giving him the money that cost me so much to earn.
We will not be returning to The Battered Cod on Wilmslow Road due to unfriendly service from one staff member, which is unfortunate because the food was quite good, as was the service from another staff member. Unfortunately, the initial interaction with the male staff member left a bad impression. Despite my girlfriend's request for separate chips due to a severe fish allergy, the man was rude and dismissive. He repeatedly told her to sit down without allowing her to complete her order. Thankfully, a female staff member intervened and provided better service. Although the food was delicious when we got home, the poor service overshadowed our experience. We hope that providing this feedback will help improve the overall customer service at the restaurant. Sadly, due to this negative experience, we will not be returning as new customers.
Been here many times now over yearsLocal Chippy to mineThere is a few others but this place has kept a good standard and a warm welcoming feel every time you come inStaff are very hard working and cleverThe fish, cod or haddock is excellent and the place has a cosy feel to itIt is quite low priced as well so easy to afford every now and then just for a cheap eatAlso do quite nice pies compared to other places which is a added bonus as most places seem to have quite basic onesWell situated in withington village with bars near byWill be back again soon
Very surprised by negative criticism. I've always found this brilliant chippy. One of the best in Manchester. Very traditional sitting in chippy. Potatoes always well cooked, suitable soft peas. I don't think about riding a bike or taking a bus just to go to this chippy instead of a place for me. There was also another store in Northernden led by an Iranian lady who was owned by the same people. When I was working, the food was irreproachable! Where did she go?
Right there 10 minutes ago, they expected a lot because somehow they had run out of chips (which is half of their menu, then when they arrived they were soaked and poor. The fish is sloppy without flavor and the flavor of the wet flour mixture. Ignoring the reviews was my biggest mistake, I should have stayed in the chicken shop. I hope this gets the same copy paste answers than the other do
Nestled in Withington Village, this local chippy has garnered mixed reviews, reflecting a diverse range of experiences. Many patrons appreciate its affordability and generous portions, noting satisfactory fish and unique offerings like saveloys. However, various complaints highlight access issues for those with disabilities, inconsistent food quality—including soggy chips and chewy fish—and lackluster service from the management. While some guests fondly recall positive past visits and the friendly atmosphere, others express disappointment, urging potential diners to consider their options carefully. Overall, the restaurant exudes potential but seems challenged by fluctuating standards and customer service concerns.

Definitiw the best fish chips in some, without a second thought. my family and I love the place! I love especially her fishmeal with muddy heaps as a side! excellent!
They must have changed the fish. I came in teetime and I have to say that everything was perfect. everyone was so happy. thanks, battered cod.
Thank you! came to my birthday with 10 of my friends! everyone was so happy with everything and the broken cadjau was friendly enough to give me my free!
Since about 17 years eating there neva had a bad eating there, which is so always all the workers are beautiful. my children love eating like my whole family. the people who have given a bad review, maybe they try to talk to the staff and solve the problem instead of leaving bad reviews!

The battered sosidge of the battered cod is the best around and sure to fix your hangover or comedown :
Have been here twice and had an excellent meal each time. I wasn't charged extra for eating in and the price was very reasonable. I did leave some of the batter on my scallop but the inside was cooked to perfection. They have a very clean loo which always impresses me. There was a selection of newspaper available to read as well. The staff seemed quite friendly. I'll happily revisit when in the area.
Visited this local establishment a few weeks ago when I was in Manchester with my friends, one of which is in a wheelchair first issue is that there was no access inside the shop for him so he had to wait outside in the rain. Secondly, upon entering the place we were greeted by a grimace from who is presumably the owner due to his terrible customer interaction and the way in which we were spoken to. Despite the best efforts of the other staff to be polite his lack of care still shone through. Finally to top it all off, after spending approximately 25 pounds in the group our chips were stale and the fish tasted chewy and not fresh at all. Would sincerely not recommend this place to anyone with brain cells and taste buds.
Came in the shop tonight, and the food tasted like it had been left out all day!!! Absolutely appalling! Will not be visiting ever again, and to make it worse £10 minimum on card is disgusting, if eating alone it’s hardly possible to achieve- do you not care about the cost of living crisis in a student area?!?!?!! DO NOT GO!!!
Went there last night October 2019). The food was incredibly overpriced £4 for a very small portion of chips, a sausage and a very small pot of curry sauce). The curry sauce was disgusting and tasted of puke and the staff member didn't close it properly so it was all spilt by the time I got home. The man at the counter was rude and unwelcoming and I regretted giving him my hard earned money.
