Location is great as it’s 5 minutes from city centre. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The room size was good with a lovely large window although only 1 part of it opened ever so slightly, a decent bath/shower, tv, vanity unit, hairdryer kettle etc. Only downfall is that there was only 1 or 2 plug sockets and these were across the room or hidden in the closet not a big issue but means you would have to unplug the tv... What e doesn't like about Afternoon Tea at Manchester Mercure:
Imagine someone knocking at your door at 3am demanding to open? They said they are from security . Indeed, I called the reception and it was the security! They claimed that there was someone in my room and they wanted to check the room? (I couldn 't sleep and was watching the TV. During my 6-day stay in September 2023, I encountered an issue with the broken water drain in the toilet at the hotel. Despite informing them three times, the problem was not fixed. Unfortunately, I was unable to leave as I had already paid in advance. It was disappointing to see that they did not prioritize customer satisfaction. I would not recommend this hotel for accommodation.
My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Unfortunately, we encountered several issues right from the start. There was no hot water for showers and only one towel in the "double room" we booked. The bedsheets were dirty and there was even a fly that flew out from under the pillow. I also developed rashes on my legs, likely from bedbugs. The hotel was very noisy at night with loud banging from upstairs and in the corridors, which made it hard for us to sleep. The elevators were not working, causing difficulties for elderly guests staying on higher floors. Despite the hotel's central location in Manchester, near top attractions, these issues were unacceptable and indicate that the hotel is outdated and poorly maintained.
The rooms are outdated and the heaters do not work properly. The reception service can be hit or miss, sometimes excellent and sometimes overly judgmental. I enjoy their breakfast offerings and the view is decent. The prices are reasonable.
The room was too hot for comfort, no airconditioning, not even a window. I heard from another guest that she did have a window but couldn't be opened. This is something they should work on. Service was okay but only after getting very upset because the booking didn't go according to plan. But the location and the splendour of the hotel is fantastic.

I was super stressed and proposed to call the police who would be more than welcome to check the room and even search my luggage if they wish to. They didn 't like this suggestion and left. I did not come drunk or anything (business trip . I am of a respectable profession, highly educated. The hotel was reserved by the host company. In general, it kind of close to the downtown, but the particular location seems to be a dangerous place. Some strange types were hanging out near the entrance. Rooms are nice though.
