Mill Cafe - MAMMOTH LAKES
Mill Cafe
Description
Mammoth Mountain's dining scene presents a mixed bag of experiences, from delightful cocktails to underwhelming meals. While many praise the renowned Bloody Marys, crafted with a special mix that keeps enthusiasts returning, others express disappointment in recent changes to popular dishes like the mammoth burger. Despite friendly staff, service inefficiencies detract from the experience, particularly during busy ski days. However, the relaxed atmosphere of the lodges, particularly the Mill, provides a great setting for unwinding. Guests can enjoy hearty portions of comfort food like chili cheese fries and turkey sandwiches, making it a convenient stop after a day on the slopes.

The food here is simply outstanding! Be sure to try the eggs in the morning along with a cup of coffee—they're incredible!
I always enjoy parking at this location when I visit Mammoth. If you arrive early and manage to find a spot nearby, the convenience is unmatched. It's ideally situated between the Canyon Lodge and Main Lodge, and I really appreciate the relaxed vibe. The area has a small but good café, a bar, clean restrooms, fire pits, and various spots to relax. On a sunny day, the plastic lounge chairs outside are a great place to take in the scenery while sipping on a few beers.
This is a great spot for a lunch on a ski day if you're in the mood for BBQ-style food. Their fries are fantastic; we tried the Cajun ones, but honestly, they taste great even without any seasoning, so the Cajun flavor isn't even necessary. The turkey sandwich was excellent as well, and the portion size is huge—I'd recommend sharing it with someone! I also swapped the pepper jack cheese for Swiss, and I think it could use a little sauce on the side, so I’d suggest going easy on the seasoning. The burger is quite decent, but pretty standard—nothing too exciting. On the other hand, the pig nachos are a must-try if you're looking for finger food! They’re perfect for sharing among 3 or 4 people. Overall, it’s a solid choice!
I understand that government regulations have made it challenging for you to serve customers, but there has to be a better system than the current casino-style cocktail waitress approach. If you want a drink, it feels like a gamble whether the waitress will even notice you. When you do ask, you’re often told her tray is full. At the same time, there’s an outdoor bar nearby that isn’t being utilized to serve or prepare drinks. I’ve visited Mammoth several times during the pandemic and have seen much better management at other places.
