Pomp used to be THE breakfast hotspot in Mainz. WAS! The classic breakfast is no longer available; there are a handful of breakfast dishes to choose from and a few top-notch extras. No more French toast, no more liverwurst; this selection is so meager and pathetic. A real shame. My son, grudgingly, chose pancakes instead of French toast, and they were terrible! Not fluffy, very dense, and didn't seem to have thawed properly. He ordered them with Nutella, which came in a small pre-packaged portion, but the pancakes were swimming in sickly sweet strawberry and vanilla sauce. Three people tried it, and no one liked it. I criticized them while clearing up, and the leftovers went back. Of course, the food was included in the bill. Okay, I'll pay without saying a word because any discussion would be too much for words. But you won't see me anymore. Nor will you see the three other adults I was there with. What a shame. You used to be THE place for a good breakfast...
Unfortunately, the food was only okay. I had a Jägerschnitzel that was terribly dry, and 90% of the sauce came from a bucket. There are other ways to make it truly delicious.
POMP is in a prominent position on the corner of a pedestrian street in central Mainz. On offer are a wide range of beers, wines and cocktails as well as the usual coffees and soft drinks. Food menu in German offered dishes for meat eaters and vegetarians. The helpful staff were on hand to explain things. The beef dish was tasty and the portion large. Prices are comparable to other similar restaurants in Mainz.
