I would have given this place a a few years ago, but I just don’t feel it has the same quality of authentic German food that it used to have. I have been visiting this restaurant for over years when I visit Mainz... View all feedback.
This restaurant serves all the traditional German foods (schnitzels, spatzel, wursts, schweinfilet, pommes, etc in a small but lively restaurant along the old town walking area. You may have to wait as tables are very much in demand you may also share the table...with others. The food is very good and comes out very hot.
We had a great evening in this restaurant, everybody was very friendly and helful, in spite of our slightly complicated requests.Interesting décor too. Food perhaps a bit heavy for my personal taste but that may be because of what dishes we Chose.
I was looking for a restaurant that would give me a true German experience and found it here. I've lived in Germany before, so know a super place fir a good German meal when I see it. It was great. Service was good. The food...was fantastic. If you really want to do the full German experience, ask to share a table with some local folks while you're there to kick off a great conversation. I highly recommend, and will be back.
If you like to visit and dine with some history around you along with a great meal this is the place. They still make their own beer here which can be seen in the cauldrons fermenting in a glassed in room and the...finished product is piped to the taps at the bar. We stopped there in the late afternoon and sat at the bar to observe the activity. I had the pork hocks and my wife had the Bratwurst, both of which were very good. The beer was delicious. As dinner time approached people started pouring in and the beer never stopped being poured.
While on a layover in Mainz, we were looking for an authentic German restaurant for dinner, and we found it here! Food was very tasty, Another in our party ordered the pig's knuckle- it looked especially good. The decor seemed to be very old and...very German. We were shown to the upper level balcony. The bartender served us because she was the only one of the staff that could speak and understand English. Overall, yes, I would recommend this restaurant.
