Katsu Bar is one of my favorite sando places. Nothing beats the egg salad in my opinion. And the curry complements the taste so well!I've gotten it multiple times and take a lot of friends there. The cauliflower is also really good. View all feedback.
What Carolyn N doesn't like about Katsu:
The pork katsu curry was ok, a bit watery in terms of the curry sauce. The katsu itself was a bit tough and dry. They used Vietnamese pickles instead of Japanese pickles which didn't quite pair as well. It's a quieter place that you order through an iPad and seat yourself. I had better curry using the grocery blocks. View all feedback.
We went on a Sunday right when they opened up at 11 am and there was no wait. However, I noticed there were a good amount of online orders already as we were placing our orders at the self service kiosk up front. It was pretty loud inside despite us being the only customers since the restaurant since there was loud EDM music playing overhead. The food came out relatively fast and the portions itself were decently sized. There were 3 half cut sandwiches surrounded by waffle fries. It came with garlic aioli and ketchup packets for the fries to dip with. It would have been nice if the sauce provided was just normal ranch dressing instead of garlic aioli because the garlic aioli was a bit overwhelming in flavor on top of the already flavorful sandwiches. The rosemary katsu sandwich was tasty. I liked the fact you can choose the type of meat you wanted (chicken or pork). I thought the berry sauce chosen to accompany the sandwich was a pretty bold flavor but it didn't negatively impact the overall taste of the sandwich. Maybe just normal mayo would have sufficed but I wanted to try something new. For the portobello katsu sandwich, I thought it was pretty disappointing which is partially my fault. I didn't fully read the entirety of the ingredients contained in the sandwich. It's basically a vegetarian friendly sandwich. I'm over here thinking it comes with chicken or pork katsu WITH portobello mushroom. It would have helped a little bit if on the menu there was a little mark (V) or leaf emoji or something of that sort indicating it's vegan/vegetarian friendly. The flavors of the sandwich itself were nice but I couldn't taste the mushroom at all.I would probably come back again just for the rosemary katsu sandwich since that's to only sandwich that's worth the price point of $13.
Katsu Bar in Orange County offers a very casual experience for those craving a katsu fix. The restaurant's ambiance is functional, providing a casual setting. The katsu sando, the main attraction, was pretty good. The bread was adequately toasted, and the katsu had a satisfying crunch, though I found it a bit heavier on the oil than my personal preference. The meat was cooked well, but it reached the level of tenderness I've experienced in higher-rated establishments. The accompanying sauce was pleasant as well. The cauliflower fries had a light, crispy exterior that made them quite enjoyable. The seasoning was subtle, allowing the natural flavors of the cauliflower to shine through. The dish was a refreshing departure from traditional potato fries and added a welcomed touch of health-conscious variety to the meal.
The curry and katsu were super delicious. I could not get enough of the katsu.... Mine was chicken and it came with a salad and vinaigrette, some coleslaw, and carrot mixed with daikon and of course the curry in a small container. It was all very neatly packaged and when I dug in I was super pleased with how crunchy the chicken katsu was and how good the curry sauce was. The waffle fries were 8 dollars and kinda pricy but really yummy. Super crispy and flavorful. I look forward to coming back!
Since my favorite mom and pop place closed down I've been craving Japanese curry but couldn't find a place until I came here. Great food and reminds me of great Japanese curry. Good find.
Smooth check out experience, modern.Do note that the Rose items on the menu are not available on the online menu, so you must get those in person.
