This looks like a really lovely venue. Decor wise it all fits very oldy worldy. But once inside staff are not that friendly. The atmosphere was not all that welcoming.. there was nothing at all wrong with the food or drink but needs to be more welcoming when you come to the bar. .

Beautiful summer evening and though we would wander down for dinner. What a letdown, the previously lovely well tended garden has gone to pot, as has the food service. Even the amazing location could not deter. We ordered gammon which literally was 3 slices of bacon, and the rest of meal overcooked. I ordered Katsu chicken curry, completely bland over cooked tough as old boots, even the rice was watery ! We paid £36 for the 2 meals and quite possibly the worst meal we have had. On top of this the staff are unfriendly, no hand sanitiser in the containers . All in all a complete waste of money and a ruined summers evening,

We visited this restaurant for our anniversary on March 16th-17th and were so impressed by the kind and lovely staff who made our stay incredibly special. Thank you so much, we have already recommended this place to all our friends!

This inn, the oldest in England, serves a very delicious breakfast.

We had a very comfortable room with a king size bed which was also very comfortable. The main door to our block of rooms had a sticky lock. The hotel is well off main trafficked areas which adds to the quiet serenity of the stay. The website talked a good menu which was verified with the dishes we enjoyed. Staff were very courteous and sweet.

More information

Insiders note The Olde Bell functions as two distinct experiences under one roof: a lively, atmospheric pub area for casual drinks and a separate, more polished dining room. Regulars often choose the pub for spontaneous visits but reserve the dining room for celebrations—asking which area you'll be seated in can shape whether your visit is boisterous or quietly intimate.
