While driving past Magnolia, MS on I-55, we decided to take a quick three-minute detour south and discovered this charming, unpretentious spot just beyond the train tracks. It was Saturday, and despite the posted hours indicating they were closed, the "open" sign was lit, so we decided to give VernoLa a shot. What a delightful surprise it turned out to be! The decor was an eclectic mix of Veracruz style with a hint of New Orleans flair, reflecting the life of the owner, who was also our hostess and chef. She was engaging and entertaining, all while serving us some of the best enchiladas we’ve ever had—beef for my husband and chicken for me, both smothered in mole sauce. I would definitely come back!
The food is delicious and the burgers are fantastic! Mrs. Betty is such a joy; I absolutely adore her!
