We were staying in a rather nice nearby hotel, but did not really want a fancy dinner at a fancy price, so we decided to go to a nearby tapas bar El 23 Tapas Ba... read more We were staying in a rather nice nearby hotel, but did not really want a fancy dinner at a fancy price, so we decided to go to a nearby tapas bar El 23 Tapas Bar which had good reviews; Sadly it was closed, so we checked out the next door La Jaima. It was pleasant enough and the waitress was great. We ordered among other things a plate of calamares and a plate of chiperones à la plancha. Sadly, the former when it arrived was what I would describe as half a plateful. Whilst tasty, half a plate of calamares is not great value at 15€ in a Spanish bar. On the other hand, the chiperones were absolutely delicious and reasonably portioned at 12€. All in all, a pleasant enough experience was for me spoiled by the stinginess with the calamares. In consequence, this restaurant does not merit more than an average review.

The service is beyond fast, sometimes I think they already know what you want before you order it. It is extremely unpretentious, Jaima sign from the 60s and fake grass on the terrace on the street, if you are an aesthetic snob this isn’t for you. All the locals go here either for a drink, the menu del dia (lunch fixed menu) or dinner tapas. The food is decent, on Fridays the fish is quite fresh (mussels and chipirones), the tomatoe salads with tuna are good and also the croquettes. The male waiters always look like they are in a bad mood, the female waitresses much friendlier and at least they smile. We always go back. Prices are very reasonable. Get here early on Fridays.
