Swagat is one of my go-to restaurants when I'm in Madison. Miss the variety of the buffet, but at least I get to enjoy leftovers! Last weekend, some family members and I ordered fish pakora, lamb vindaloo, lamb masala, lamb shahi korma, tandoori chicken, a variety of breads, and rasmalai for dessert for lunch. This is ok good Indian food that you can get to your own spice level to order. They they go heavy on the tomato many of the recipes. I do wish that they had their buffet since it's still advertised that they have a buffet. Even when you eat in the dining, it's confusing because all of the old buffet tables and warming plates are in the dining room. If you want to eat a meal like you in a factory conveyor belt, then over for weekend buffet. In the past, you had the option to order something other than water not when I went last (Feb 2024). And it was worse than that ... The only time someone came to our table was to drop off, or pick up, the check. I thought it was weird, so I looked around. No other table had any drink other than water. This was about 8 other tables in the first room by the entrance. I could not see the back room. So it appears like this is a decision, not a fluke. Lastly, the bill came to the table with a processing fee already added. Reminder that no one talked to us at all, so they have no idea how we plan on paying. Did I pay via CC, yes. But that's because I was already charged for it. Until I'm confident of changes, this was my last buffet visit.
Always delicious and friendly service! So Happy the lunch buffet is back on weekends now yum yum! Been a favorite of mine for well over a decade!
Portion is small.. I was asking for how many ons meat.. server said 16 ons meat.. but I don't think so.. AND BEWARE ABOUT BILL PAYMENT.. SERVER MAKE PAYMENT HIDDING 3 .. HE MAKE TOTALLY PAYMENT. AND PUT TIPS GRADUATY 18 AND 3 HIDDING FOR PAYMENTCARD IF WE PAY CARD.. BUT WE ARE PAY CASH.. SO I ASKING.. AND HE REMOVE... I WILL NEVER BACK... SMALL PORTION FOR LAMB CURRYAND NEVER BACK
We had a mixed bag with our food choices. The saag paneer and garlic naan were solid choices. But our good meals were brought down by absolutely awful tandoori chicken. We got pieces that were blubbery, unchewable, and not worth eating a second bite of.We left having barely touched our chicken and with stomachaches.
