It may just be a local tavern, but honestly, their cheeseburger is incredibly delicious! (And I’ve traveled around the world!) The French fries are perfectly crunchy yet fluffy. Be sure to order the Wisconsin spotted beer to go with your meal. It’s such a satisfying experience! I keep going back again and again. It’s a shame that I'm only visiting this area.
We had a nice evening grabbing dinner. It was busy, but our service was still fine and the chicken sandwiches would bring us back.
I visited this restaurant for the first time and was really impressed. The fish was excellent, with a light breading that allows you to truly savor the flavor of the fish. Be prepared for a wait of at least 30 minutes, especially if it's crowded — there were about 75 people when I was there, and it was quite cramped with standing room only.
The Oakcrest Tavern has recently reopened at reduced capacity but they continue to offer takeout. Place your dinner order for a specified time starting at 11 AM. They will text you when your order has been delivered to the foyer. Be sure to sign your credit card receipt as you pick up your order. Here is a serving tip: put your hot food in a 400 degree oven for five minutes to crisp the fish and fries before eating. Some of the best fried lake perch in Madison!
This is a fantastic local bar! It's a cozy spot, complete with outdoor seating during the summer, and offers a true Wisconsin atmosphere. The kitchen is right inside the bar, so you can see the cooks preparing the meals. We started with cheese curds, which were absolutely delicious! The ranch dip that accompanied them was great too. I ordered a cheeseburger that was full of flavor. My husband opted for the fish, which I wasn't too fond of as I found it a bit dry, but he enjoyed it with the tartar sauce. I definitely recommend checking this place out, but make sure to arrive early since it gets busy quickly!
