Reviews summary
Bar Bouchée presents a delightful blend of culinary experiences, showcasing the highs and lows often found in fine dining. Some guests rave about the expertly crafted dishes like escargot, monkfish, and seasonal specials, complemented by attentive service and a charming atmosphere. Others, however, have noted a decline in quality, with inconsistent flavors and presentation. Despite some issues, including long waits and outdoor seating challenges, many patrons appreciate the vibrant ambiance and skilled bartenders. Overall, Bar Bouchée remains a popular destination in Connecticut, inviting guests to savor its offerings while leaving room for improvement.

Our reservation was at 5, party of 2, we were seated at a table for 4. At 6:45 we discovered OUR table was going to be combined with the empty, table for 2 to accommodate a party of 6. This changed our entire experience. Four adults sat at that table for2 at 6:45. They pulled chairs and were tightly packed behind my husband’s chair. The other 2 guests joining this party, stoodOVER US waiting for our departure. We were on the outdoor patio, in the front of the building not a lot of space betweentables. The host, SHOULD HAVE mentioned a party of 6 would be arriving AND IF the Table was a TWO HOUR limit neither of thesewere mentioned. We can only eat as fast as we are Served. Fortunately, I took photos of my entrees, which created aTimeline. Speciality Drink arrived 5:25 Appetizer Beef Tartare 5:38 Dinner Cod Trout 6:12 My Dessert 6:37, then my Husbandgot his Dessert 6:42. I RUSHED TERRIBLY to choke down my delicious dessert, because I couldn’t take another minute of 6 peoplestaring me down WANTING our Table! HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT for a $139.00 dinner that I looked forward to!! SHAME ON THIS PLACE!!
Bar Bouchee may be the best restaurant in Madison. Maybe Central Southern Connecticut. While their menu has more wine and drinks than main menu items, the food are authentic French dishes that do not disappoint. The wait staff is amazing. There whenyou want them, invisible when you don't. Their advice on menu items was spot on. We could not have had a better time or meal.
The best restaurant we’ve been to in Connecticut. Despite the usual French posters about absinthe and apéritifs, the room manages to keep an authentic bistro atmosphere, thanks to typical high chairs/benches (separated with plexiglas panels). Thestaff was super friendly and accommodating, which is the only part that didn’t feel typically French ???? We had the hangersteak with gratin dauphinois, and it was flawless. The steak was actually rare (like we ordered), and tender. The gratin wascreamy, with a touch of garlic. Only the greens were of questionable usefulness in this plate (since they brought more fat thanacidity). We had the chocolate pot de crème for dessert. I expected something good but relatively heavy. It was surprisinglylight (all things considered), and the chocolate was most surely French. We’ll definitely be back! PS: we came with a babyand the owner had arranged a table with more space, so we could keep the stroller with us.
We have been there after shopping at the outlets. First we went to the restaurant near by in a Hilton hotel. After we got ignored there for some reason, we decided to go to another place and luckily we did. We had the oysters and then the steak. Bothwere extremely good! For dessert we had the Creme brûlée which was also very good. The waiter was extremely friendly. It’sthe perfect place to experience authentic French kitchen. Thank you for that experience! We can highly recommend!
I had an hour to kill in town and stopped in here without a reservation for a couple of drinks. Even though it appeared I was very underdressed compared to everybody else they fit me in at the bar with no problem. I had a few very well made cocktails. The food being served to others looked great but I did not have any myself. If I had more time and was in the area again I woulddefinitely try this place for a meal.

We had a lovely dinner on the heated patio. The food was delightful. Our table shared an array of appetizers and dessertsMy entree, the chicken was delicious. I also loved the potato side and the mushrooms. The service was delightful, unrushed and friendly. We lingered over our dinner for over two hours. The creme brulee was perfection, with a light texture and balanced citrus flavor.A perfect location for a special occasion
Sadly, the food is not what it used to be. Menu was bland or weird (avocado salad with oatmeal granola). Nothing really French about it. Escargot come in their shells now and out of 6, 2 were missing. Mussels were dried out and lacked flavor. The broth used to be delicious. Husband's steak was small and fatty. Spent a fortune and left dissatisfied. Drinks were good but very pricey. Server was great. Heated outdoor patio is very nice. Will not return.
We had a birthday celebration dinner. The Food was amazing as usual. And our waitress was excellent. One small concern is they did not do anything to recognize the birthday even though they were told in advance.
My first time here and was a great place for our date night. Our dishes were delicious of halibut and beef and the dessert was a perfect way to end the night.
My dinner was absolutely delicious. I had the beet salad and then onto the steak with gratin dauphinois. The steak was a perfect medium rare and the potatoes were cooked perfectly. Ended the dinner with the hazelnut caramel crunch, bittersweet chocolate mousse with drizzled chocolate sauce. A delicious dinner indeed.

Lovely French Bistro in Madison. Night we dined it was unfortunately a limited prix fixe menu would have preferred to have had other options than those presented nevertheless ,the kitchen seemed to be brilliant.Appetizers were exquisite. My main course beef was fine; my husband's pheasant accompanied by stuffing was dry and not very palatable. Desserts were lovely. Wine selection very good my chardonnay was served appropriately chilled. Server forgot something that we had requested not a big deal since it was Xmas Eve and they seemed short staffed but nevertheless it happened. I will go there again to taste what else the kitchen can produce.
The food and service at Bar Bouchée is exceptional. I love that they change the menu with the seasons. This restaurant never fails to impress for a special evening out.
What a gem this restaurant turned out to be! Every single dish was phenomenal. We had the beef tartare, beef Wellington, oil poached halibut and the tarte flambee. Every dish was truly exceptional, delicious, balanced and memorable. We honestly can’t wait to go back. Nigel provided us with excellent service and the cocktails were also top notch!

This was an amazing meal from beginning to end! We were quickly welcomed and a choice is given two tables by the host. The waiter, Shane, was personal, made great suggestions and attentive. We are sometimes disappointed by the quality of food when we were impressed from the beginning... A crab Louie Salat, the peasant and mozzarella salad, where great in a warm night. The salmon and corn blossom was amazing! And a friend beat the chicken we rarely order chicken, but this chicken was tasteful and melt in your mouth. The lemon desert was crisp and the small French press coffee smooth. A good friend of mine has allergies and they are very accommodating for them. We'll be back again and again!
Excellent food Hangar Steak Pommes and Burger with amazing chips, attentive staff, wonderful French bistro atmosphere, lively mousses. We had a wonderful time!!!
Everything was great, from the food to the drinks. The bartender Shane was awesome.
