Was Bryce S at Rye Canteen a mag?
We enjoyed a delicious meal featuring salads and sandwiches, along with a selection of appetizers. We tried the spinach and artichoke dip, and it was exceptional—I have a feeling we'll be ordering it every time we visit. Most of us opted for the double patty burger, customizing it to our liking with toppings like avocado, bacon, and sautéed onions, among others. View all feedback.

What Terrence M dislikes about Rye Canteen:
If I wanted poor service, I could have easily chosen any fast food restaurant in the Luling/Boutte area and likely would have received better treatment. I experienced significant distress, and I don't believe I'll be able to move past it. View all feedback.

I called shortly after 3:00 PM to place my order and requested to pick it up at 5:20 PM, knowing I'd be too busy at work to call later. The staff member confirmed it was okay. I had a couple of questions about the menu, but she couldn’t answer them. I placed my order, and she mentioned it would be ready in about 15 minutes. I clarified that I wanted to pick it up at 5:20, and she just nodded, which made me think this was off to a rocky start. When I arrived at 5:20, there were only two occupied tables. A kind waitress welcomed me, and I asked if I should go to the bar to pick up my order since I had never been there before. She told me that someone would assist me shortly. I went to the bar, but no one was there. The same waitress returned and went to fetch someone for me. When the staff member came out of the kitchen, I smiled and was about to greet her, but she immediately asked, “Name?” I was caught off guard and had to ask her to repeat herself. I gave her my name, and she told me the total. I handed her my card, and to my surprise, she pulled out an iPad with a card reader. Why don't they have a regular credit card machine? After processing my payment, a minute later, the same staff member came out to inform me that they were out of boiled shrimp and asked if I wanted fried or grilled instead. So they had grilled but not boiled? Yes, she confirmed, explaining that the grilled shrimp were smaller. I told her that I just wanted my money back since that’s not what I ordered. She seemed uncertain but said she would try to work something out. Wait, what?! So now I was getting a refund. Another staff member approached me and asked if I wanted something else. I responded, “No, this is probably my last visit here. You should inform customers about being out of items before charging them.” She told me they had just run out, which confused me since I had placed my order over an hour and a half ago and wondered why they were only now preparing my food. Then, out of the blue, the staff member informed me that they were boiling shrimp for my salad and making it at no charge. So they do have shrimp after all? I was so confused. The owner brought my food from the kitchen and apologized, explaining that they were having trouble getting fresh shrimp. Here’s my issue: either you have shrimp or you don’t. I was told they were out, and now they were giving me shrimp. On the positive side, my salad was quite good, aside from the warm tomatoes. My husband enjoyed his club sandwich, but he ended up with a burnt, dried-up piece of meat that I assumed was chicken, which didn’t belong in the sandwich. The mac and cheese was tasty, and the chicken wings were crispy, but there was a lot of grease in the to-go box. Will I return? Probably not. I can’t tolerate poor customer service, especially the inconsistent, confusing explanations I received throughout this experience.

I need to revise my previous review because, about 9 months ago, things began to decline shortly after my last visit. We decided to give the restaurant three more chances since we had enjoyed it so much in the past, but each time the food quality worsened. I won't be returning unless I hear positive feedback from acquaintances. The servers are friendly, though sometimes absent or slow, so I’m giving it 3 stars because I felt welcomed and received what I ordered. I don't want to be overly critical, but it's clear that the restaurant needs to improve overall and consistently provide good food if they hope to regain the customers they’ve lost.

I absolutely adore this hidden gem located on Hwy 90, right next to the Dollar General. The salads are enormous, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The spinach and artichoke dip is creamy and delightful, perfectly complemented by the fried bow tie pasta. Each day, they offer a lunch special that's made from scratch. My favorites include the beans, chicken Parmesan, and the hamburger steak served with homemade mashed potatoes. The staff are incredibly kind and attentive. Barrett, Ali, and the whole team make you feel right at home during your visit.

This is my favorite spot in SCP. He's taking things to the next level over there with creative dishes and elevated flavors. Great service and nice presentations help Rye Canteen rise above the rest. Keep it up and I'll be back again and again.
