La Veranda - Lugano

La veranda Restaurant has been a quite agreeable surprise. I was expecting the standard high level - but boring - restaurant and the truth is, that it was an impressive fashion gourmet evening.Whole supper has been a discovery, from starters to dessert. From main courses to it formidable "bodega".Nobady can miss it!

Just after I proposed to my girlfriend I wanted to treat us on a romantic dinner with exquisite dishes. Romantic and exquisite it was! Francesco and Salvatore made sure the evening had everything we could hope for. Very attentive service, star worthy dishes and a table decorated with roses and marsipan hearts.We had the Menu Gastronomico "Momenti d'Oro". A 5 course menu with the best ingredients, a perfect preperation and stunning combinations:- the scallops melted on the tongue- the lobster was perfectly accompanied by a slightly spicy sauce- the combination of veal, foie gras and port wine reduction always works for me ;-)- and the desert with chocolate, gold and an artistic "YES" was a joy for the eyeWe truly noticed that Francesco and his team made all the effort to make this a special, memorable, perfect evening for me and my fiancé. Beautiful lake views (you are lower so your getting some trees blocking you. ). But overall nice. Service very very good. Good food. I had the shrimp and husband had the lamb. They make all the bread at the restaurant and had the best crunchy hollow breadsticks ever. Husband had the buffalo tomato appetizer... cheese was the size of a baseball and could have fed a large family!

We had the set menu the first night and a la carte the next. Both evenings the food was delicious. The view from the window seats is gorgeous especially as darkness falls and the lights over the lake come on. The service was wonderful - you certainly felt special. The courses were plentiful and there was no hurry at any point during the meal - the first night we were there 2 and a half hours! Against - well the portions are small and although the food is excellent it is expensive. The fact we went twice however says it all!!

We arrived at the restaurant without a reservation after a bike tour. We were not dressed up, just in jeans and shirt. We got immediately welcomed and after we did not like the first table the organized a new one for us directly on the windows with a beautiful view. This is not common in such restaurants.The service was great, friendly and very helpful.The prices are quite ok for the style and the level of the restaurant. The wine list is long and impressive with also good choices of small bottles.The food was very well presented and quite good. As this is a gourmet restaurant it could have got a little bit more push but overall still great.This restaurant is great for a candle light dinner and special evening.
