If you're in search of authentic Lao cuisine, this restaurant is a must-visit. I tried the Khao Piak Sen, a savory chicken and noodle soup brimming with scallions, cilantro, and crispy garlic—perfect for a rainy day. My friend opted for the beef laap at medium spice, and I can attest that it truly qualifies as medium heat. What Austyn Heaney dislikes about Lao’de Cafe:
The red curry noodles were not spicy! Which was an unexpected but pleasant surprise since it looks like could melt your face off. However it's just sweet with coconut flavor, thick consistency, topped with aromatic herbs and I would not share the bowl. They were both fantastic and it was a lot for the portion. We didn't end up finishing and had a doggy bag to go home. The service was good and our waiter was attentive... View all feedback.

Today's review is all about appreciation. Yesterday, right after I placed my order and paid for my meal, I received a call about a medical emergency involving my 4-month-old son. I had to leave the restaurant before my food arrived, which was disappointing since it was my first visit and I was eager to try their menu. However, the owner, a truly remarkable person, took the time to remake my order the following day. He easily could have charged me again, but instead, he chose to show kindness. It's been a tough couple of weeks for my son and me, and his thoughtful gesture really brightened my day. This is a fantastic establishment with delicious food and a lot of heart!

The food is fantastic and very authentic. However, it’s a bit too spicy for my taste, and it leaves my stomach feeling upset for the rest of the day.
I want to begin this review by highlighting their greatest strength: the food. Lao 'De Cafe's authentic Lao dishes are absolutely outstanding. It's hard to find the words to express just how perfect their Nam Khao is and how delicious and perfectly spicy their Lao sausages taste. However, no matter how fantastic the food is, running a restaurant that aims to justify its prices (the food here isn’t cheap) and maintain a solid reputation requires both excellent food and service. I would have given this place a full five stars if it weren't for the inconsistent service. I generally order to-go, and most of the time, I can pay quickly and be on my way. Unfortunately, during a recent visit, I found no one available to ring up my order. I ended up waiting 15 to 20 minutes for the person who was supposed to help me, as the older chef didn’t know how to operate the register. There was a sign stating they would return by 3 PM, but it was already 3:15 when we arrived, and we left at 3:35. I know it might seem like I’m being overly critical, but I genuinely enjoy the food here and would love to see them improve their service. Nonetheless, I highly recommend trying their Lao food.

This is one of my favorite places in Lowell. Authentic Laos food and actually spicy! I definitely recommended coming here and helping out the small businesses in Lowell! :
The food was bursting with flavor and absolutely delicious. The waitress was fantastic and suggested some amazing dishes. I will definitely be returning to try more. Highly recommended!
This restaurant serves the best papaya salad I have ever tasted! I really appreciate a place that prepares food the way it’s meant to be enjoyed. Not only is the food exceptional, but the customer service is also top-notch! I traveled from Boston, eagerly counting down the minutes until I reached Lowell, only to find out they had closed an hour and a half earlier. However, I noticed two staff members outside chatting, and they truly made my night because I had been craving that salad since my first visit three days earlier. One of them generously offered me her own personal papaya salad that she had planned to take home! Honestly, I don’t think I would do that myself, and I'm someone who cares a lot! You can always count on me to order at least two papaya salads a week—thank you so much!!!

My boyfriend wanted to try a new restaurant in the area so he picked Lao’ De Cafe. Honestly I wasn’t impressed by the look and atmosphere of the cafe when we walked into the door but I decided to give it a try. We ordered a lot of things from the menu since the price was pretty reasonable. And everything was so damn delicious! The portion and the presentation of each dish were perfect. And everything was freshly and perfectly cooked. I was really in awe. I’m from Thailand and I’m really good at cooking so I’m very picky when it comes to Asian cuisine! But I definitely gave this place two thumbs up! We even reordered everything to take home for our dinner the next day. I totally understand those who gave them some bad reviews about the service. But hey, they made everything from scratch so it might take a little longer for food to be served but it was totally worth the wait. And the hostess was super nice and friendly. We will definitely come back for more!
Went here for an early dinner and had the Mee Kathi. Food and service were great.
Visiting from NYC, brother is planning to move nearby. The food was excellent. We had the sausage appetizer, not greasy at all and has a bit of tangy taste that I enjoyed. The sticky rice that accompanied it was delicious. The chicken noodle had a thicker type of rice noodle which I never tried before but I liked it, it was similar to Korean kalguksu. The calamari ceviche which I thought would be raw turned out to be pan fried with vegetables but was soft and delicious. The bahnmi was great as well. Overall, the couple that runs the restaurant cook all the food in an authentic way and I was very happy with all the food.
If you're in search of authentic Lao cuisine, this restaurant should definitely be on your list to try. I ordered the khao piak sen, which is a Lao-style noodle soup filled with plenty of scallions, cilantro, and fried garlic. It was the perfect dish for a rainy day. My friend chose the rinderlaap, cooked medium, and I would say it has a true medium level of spice. If you're not accustomed to spicy food, I'd recommend going with a mild option first, as you can always add more heat if desired. The service was very friendly and attentive! As for parking, you might have to drive around a bit to find street parking, but in Lowell, it's free until 6 PM.
