During our visit to Fortress Louisbourg we took a quick lunch at the Grandchamps Restaurant. The Grandchamps is fashioned after an old time inn. It is community seating and we had the opportunity to chat with a couple from Ontario who were on holiday great experience. The menu is limited but we enjoyed our pea soup and bread and the courtesy extended by our friendly server. It was definitely a fun experience. View all feedback.

We should have stopped for food before getting to the fortress. They have a cafe which does not serve anything but baked goods obviously to force you to go to a restaurant. This is the low class restaurant and you sit with other patrons. They only give you a spoon and a huge cloth as a bib/napkin. The servers are in period costume. This part is all great. If you happen to get hungry while visiting the fortress, be prepared for disappointing food. I ordered the open-faced hot turkey sandwich with soggy fries, and when I informed the waitress about the issue, there was no attempt to fix it. The turkey chunks were served with canned gravy, but the turkey pie was a better option. The carrots, however, were nicely cooked. Overall, I probably wouldn't dine there again.
I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The portions were small, with a small soup costing $6.99 and a large soup costing $10.99. The soup was served with dry, thinly sliced bread, and the bowls looked dirty. I am not the only one who was dissatisfied - out of the 48 people on my tour, no one rated it higher than one out of five. Overall, it was a very disappointing meal.
There are 2 'restaurants ' within the Fortress of Louisbourg Hotel de la Marine, which is for upper class folk, and Grandchamps, which is for the lower classes. Lower class sounded like much more fun to us! You are seated at communal long tables, so you get to meet other patrons. It really is an experience, not just a meal. We were only given one large pewter spoon to use as a utensil. and big bids that felt like we were wearing bedsheets! The food was good the fish, mussels, bread cheese, and apple tarts for dessert. The only part I wasn 't too excited about was the vegetable soup. The service was very good our server was attentive, and quite funny while in character. Would be fun for kids!
We came back to the Fortress of Louisbourg twice in one season just to sample the food at this fantastic tavern. The savoury dishes are simple yet exquisite. Mussels to pea soup to meat pies paired with good ale or rum punch. The staff are fun yet professional. Order to apple tart to start! Check out their menu online to whet your appetite! This is truly one one the best restaurants in Canada....
The restaurant offers a nice selection of classic dishes. I particularly enjoyed the cod dinner, even though I usually don't like fish. The atmosphere is lively with communal tables. The service was fast and, as always at Louisbourg, bilingual. Dining here is a memorable experience when visiting the fortress.
