Mountain Cafe was a great experience! Healing and delicious. Per my friend's recommendation, I ordered the second item on the menu, which was the Whole Chicken, Ginseng, Garlic, etc. in Chicken Soup with Rice. At around $18, the price point is reasonable. Service was friendly and efficient. Located in the same strip mall as Sun Nong Dan and Hangari Kalguksu, this is definitely a popular area for Korean soup. I don't... View all feedback.
What A P doesn't like about Mountain:
The ox broth soup was quite bland. If one doesn’t speak Korean, it was difficult to be served. Asking for water proved to be problematic though we finally did get water but no extra cups so we emptied our hot tea into a separate cup then reused the empty cup.Service was quite slow. Only three of us but each of our orders came about 10 and 5 minutes apart from the first person’s order.Service was poor and food bland.... View all feedback.

Parking was acceptable with off-street valet parking available.
Mountain Cafe is my go-to place whenever I think of ginseng chicken. We used to finish Saturday night party with it (good time! as this is a 24-hour store. Later my office was close to its new place on 6th street. I'll just bring take out home for a satisfying dinner. Their abalone porridge is also my favorite. A stomach-warming treat. Oh, the spicy beef (small dish is their unique small dish. Sooooooo good. I would just keep refilling it until the ladies hated me (yes they recognize my face because I am so passionate about their food yet so greedy for the beef lol
Legit if I lived in LA I think we'd be here every week. Walked here from my hotel on a weekday-nobody here when I arrived at 9 but 5 tables of folks came soon after. Very brisk take out business too. Comfort food- everything on the menu other people's' tables looked filling delicious- I went with the abalone porridge it came scalding hot, with banchan fabulously tender morsels of beef on the side. This filled me up I didn't need lunch after such a satisfying breakfast. Service was friendly super efficient. Food took awhile to come out- it's fresh hot not been sitting around Pre prepped. Decor is no frills clean. Valet parking in tiny lot outside.
Background: My friend and I were actually trying to go to Yangji Gamjatang, which is right next door. However, we accidentally came in here, but oh boy I'm glad we did! I'm Korean American, and I'm always trying to find an authentic Korean restaurant in Ktown. TLDR; you can tell a Korean restaurant is good when it has a bunch of takeout containers and they give you good banchan. This had it AND the menu items had certain items that are veryyyy Korean (ie. Abalone porridge). Please try this place out and support the local business! Onto the longer review...Food: 4.75 5Seollungtang: My friend and I shared a beef seollungtang and we were full by the end. There was a ton of meat and dangmyeon (glass noodles) and she gave us both rice. The broth was nice and rich. In comparison to Han bat, I do think Han bat has the slightly better broth however! This meal was better bang for my buck. It's the same price as Han bat, but I walked away way more full because of the banchan (side dishes).Banchan (side dishes): There was two types of kimchi (napa cabbage and radish), jangjorim (soy braised beef), and one more root vegetable side dish that I wasn't sure of. I'm NOT used to seeing jangjorim served at Korean restaurants as a side dish. They take a long time to make and they aren't the cheapest to make either. So it was a PLEASANT surprise to see jangjorim. And it tasted great! The jangjorim vegetable side dishes seollungtang made the whole meal very filling and nutritious.Service: 4 5There wasn't a lot of staff working, so it was a little slower paced. But the food came out at a reasonable time and the staff ladies were very nice and pleasant. She wasn't too helicoptery, which is what I prefer.Ambiance: 5 5Very quiet, homey and rustic Korean restaurant style. I could have a nice conversation with my friends here and it doesn't feel like a lot of other popular Korean restaurants in ktown where there is a lot of people.Overall: 5 5I'm really surprised this doesn't have more reviews customers. It is an authentic Korean establishment with authentic, homestyle flavors!
Chicken ginseng soup was delicious, they were generous with the side dish. The food comes pretty fast, great service and we didn't need to wait to be seated! Perfect lunch! Parking is valet, you could try to find street parking but might be a little difficult during dinner time.
