Reviews - Lil' Ray's
Reviews summary
Nestled in a charming atmosphere, this restaurant offers a mix of Southern cuisine that evokes both delight and disappointment. While some dishes like the fried shrimp and homestyle sides received praise for their quality, others, such as the fried catfish and various po'boys, fell short in flavor and presentation. The excellent service and well-maintained surroundings added to the appeal, making for a positive dining experience overall. Many patrons expressed a desire to return, particularly for specific favorites like shrimp tacos and desserts. While some items may leave diners craving more, the restaurant has potential for a satisfying meal.

If I didn't live over 900 miles away, I would come to this restaurant every week. The food is amazing, the prices are fantastic, and our waitress was excellent. Thank you for giving my family the best meal we've had on this trip! View all feedback.
What Michael Dyson dislikes about Lil' Ray's:
The red beans lacked flavor, but the toasted French bread was excellent. The potato salad was tasty, and the sausage was also very good. Overall, it met my expectations, but nothing particularly stood out. View all feedback.

Food was really good. Atmosphere was good. Wait staff was busy talking trash about their working conditions. A bit unprofessional if you ask my opinion.
We went in with neighbors and had lunch while we were driving around for the Jeepin the Coast festivities.
Ate here during jeeping the coast. Was NOT IMPRESSED. We had roast beef poboy and the poboy delight with green tomatoes and shrimp. We had to keep asking our waiter for items we were missing. He was not worried about his customers and it showed.
It's not the same as it was when I lived in the area years ago. I'm not sure if the ownership has changed. The bread and gravy on the roast beef po'boy were fantastic, but the meat itself was a letdown. It seems to have shifted too much towards becoming a full-service restaurant and has lost the charm of being the excellent po'boy spot it once was.

The shrimp po-boy, garnished with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles, along with the one featuring fried green tomatoes and remoulade sauce, were both exceptional. The key lime pie is authentic and made from scratch—definitely not frozen. It was truly the best! I will definitely come back to dine here the next time we're in the area.
The restaurant was clean and the staff was friendly. However, I felt that the fried catfish and shrimp plate was overpriced for its portion size—only one piece of unseasoned catfish and six shrimp for $20. Moreover, the dish was lacking in flavor. I may explore other options on the menu, but if you’re after tasty catfish, I suggest going to Coastal Daiquiri down the street, where you can get six pieces for $13.
The restaurant has a lovely ambiance, so we decided to stop by for lunch. Unfortunately, the charming decor didn't match the quality of the food we received. My husband ordered the fried fish and hush puppies, but they fell short of expectations. The breading was overdone, and the fish was mushy and undercooked, looking rather unappetizing. I opted for the shrimp po' boy, which was a good portion size, but the shrimp were noticeably dirty and poorly cleaned, even under the Cajun batter. We also sampled the fried mushrooms, which were just acceptable. It's possible we made poor menu choices or visited on an off day, but overall, our experience was quite disappointing.
I had the fried catfish, and it was excellent. The batter was perfectly crispy, well-seasoned, and the fish was meaty, moist, and flavorful. The appetizers were impressive as well—the shrimp were large and satisfying, and the shrimp bisque was rich and full of flavor. The service was friendly, comfortable, and prompt. I’m eager to visit again.

The service was excellent, and we had a great time during our visit. However, I wouldn't recommend the catfish—it was quite fishy and undercooked. The crab cakes we ordered as an appetizer were also overpriced for what we received.
The service was excellent and the food was delicious and served hot. We go to Lil Ray's roughly once a month and rarely encounter any problems. The prices are reasonable considering the portion sizes.
We went to Lil' Ray's Restaurant and the food was good! The service was a little slow, but the food made it worth it. Would recommend the shrimp tacos, seafood gumbo, and crabby jack poboy.
After picking up my cousin from college, she was hungry. So we stopped for her to eat. She had shrimp poboy and a bowl of gumbo. She ate every last bit! She said it was really great she's super picky about food.

This is a fantastic place to savor some royal red! Everything we ordered was superb! A big thank you to Jay for the outstanding service! The setting is lovely and tranquil, and the atmosphere is both cozy and incredibly welcoming!
I absolutely love Lil Ray's! The food is always fresh and delicious, the service is excellent, and the restaurant is kept very clean.
Always delicious food and impecable service!!! There was only 1 server on our most recent visit and she was very busy, but she kept a smile on and took great care of us. I recommend the shrimp pool and sweet potato fries!!
I had a blackened grouper sandwich with all the fixings and some steamed vegetables. The sandwich was outstanding. I definitely plan to return soon!
