I don't usually venture out to Long Beach, but I'm definitely going to more often. I visited Corazon de Cuba on a Thursday night, it wasn't too busy but it wasn't empty. (We parked in the tiny lot across the street. The bartender seemed to be the only person there, from what I could tell, he was servicing the whole restaurant. He was exceptional. He greeted and sat us immediately and took our orders in a timely fashion. As someone who formerly worked as a bartender, server and a host- I really appreciate expedient and efficient service. He was really friendly and attentive to all of the guests. The drinks were extremely refreshing and well made. (We ordered a guava mojito and a guava margarita, so I was nervous about them being too sweet. As far as the food- it was as good as it looks. The balsita de yuca might have been the best guacamole I've ever had in a restaurant. (Usually I prefer to just make it myself. The plantain chips were light and crispy. The yucca frita bowl was heavier- but equally as delicious. I think it's delightful that the guacamole was served in something not only edible, but delicious. You really get to enjoy and appreciate every bit of the guacamole. The caserola de queso was exactly as you'd expect, melted cheeses served with a really yummy baked bread that had a very satisfying crunch. We were full after appetizers, but there was no way we were about pass on a perfectly executed Cuban, paired with sweet potato fries. I ordered the lechon asada, which is described as a succulent slow roasted pork. Honestly, there's no better way to describe it. The pork was cooked to perfection, paired with delicious rice and beans. The portions were appropriate, we left full and happy. I am definitely looking forward to coming back and trying so much more. Awesome job, Corazon de Cuba!
This is a review of their take-out offerings. Three of us each had a Cuban sandwich. All three of us found the sandwich lacking flavor and essential ingredients of an authentic Cuban sandwich. The roll was dense and had no crunch from the press. The pulled pork had an odd flavor and the ham and Swiss cheese were hard to find in the lump of pork. The sandwich was missing pickles and did not appear to have mustard. We also ordered sweet plantains which were dry dark brown lumps lacking any caramelization or sweetness and resembled dog p more than plantains. Finally we ordered Guac which was dominated by the taste of lime juice and was missing the taste of red onions or tomatoes and had no saltiness whatsoever. If you are looking for authentic Cuban food avoid this restaurant.
I went to this spot for taco Tuesday a few weeks ago and it was a really great way to break up the week with some tasty Mexican food and margs that lived up to the advertised hype. From the start all the staff were super friendly and helpful with making suggestions on the menu as it was our first time there. We started with chips and guac, and I can't say enough how fantastic the plantain chips were!! What a great personal twist on a classic!! You can see them as well as our margs in the photo I included with the review. We both got 2-3 tacos as well. I ordered exactly what the waiter recommended, and he certainly knew what he was talking about. Everything was delicious, and we definitely plan on going back some day to try some more fun drinks off their menu!!
I've eaten here a dozen times. After seeing the chef, pick his nose, with no gloves and go back to dicing chicken, I don't care how good the food is I ain't eating here no mas!
