Cheneston's
4.3 / 5 (1109 reviews)

Description

Recently restored to a very high standard, Cheneston's is a charming restaurant tucked away in a grand Victorian townhouse. The playlist of Jazz Age standards adds a touch of elegance to the dining experience. While some dishes like the raviolo and chicken pot pie were not perfect, the millefeuille was impeccably presented. The service, though slow and supercilious, was highly courteous. Prices are on the higher side, but the overall experience is not unpleasant, albeit slightly odd and very expensive. The restaurant exudes a period British charm with old-world service, making it a great spot for first-timers in London looking for a taste of history. The private dining rooms offer excellent service and a must-try starter scallop dish. With a focus on customer satisfaction, intimate ambience, and delicious food offerings, Cheneston's is a delightful find that promises a memorable dining experience.

Old English hotel vibe, white table cloths, attentive though ultimately suffocating service. Atmosphere a bit painful, quiet, stuffy, uncomfortable. Appetizers were great, steak was dreadful. Thin and badly cooked. I sent it back and got a duplicate of the poor quality. They graciously comped it and we made a hasty exit vowing never to return.

Three stunning Victorian townhouses were transformed into a hotel in 1922, and have recently been restored to impeccable standards. The beautifully decorated restaurant, with soft lighting, is located at the back of the ground floor. The background music consists of classic Jazz Age tunes. The raviolo was a bit tough, the chicken pot pie was too watery, and the millefeuille was presented perfectly but was difficult to eat without a knife. The service was haughty and slow, and the prices were incredibly high. The other diners were all American hotel guests. Overall, the experience was not unpleasant, but slightly unusual and very expensive.
