Contribute FeedbackBalans restaurant in Soho offers a lively atmosphere perfect for a boozy evening or a pre-theatre meal. While the food may be a bit overpriced for the quality, the live music and authentic atmosphere make for an enjoyable experience. However, service can be slow and inconsistent, with some customers experiencing issues such as incorrect orders and long wait times. Despite some shortcomings, the friendly waitstaff and cozy ambiance make Balans a recommendable option for those looking for good French food in the area.
Advertises itself as open 24 hours through the weekend on its website, and says ‘we are open’ on its door, but staff waved me away at 4.30am on Sunday without any explanation.
Always the best poached eggs! We don’t live in London but have family here. We always come to Balans for Sunday brunch when we are down. The poached eggs are always perfect. The Balans crispy potatoes are lovely. Nice coffees and friendly staff. Ovi our server was a really nice guy super friendly.
Ever since some knowledgeable staff members left, the quality of this restaurant has significantly decreased. During my first week visiting, I was told they were out of tonic, and then four days later, they ran out of vodka. It makes me question if they even bother placing orders. How difficult is it to walk to the nearby restaurant and ask for supplies? The new staff running this place seem inexperienced and if they're not careful, this once iconic restaurant will suffer in their hands.
I didn't realize this restaurant was open 24 hours, so when it came down to choosing between takeaway or Balans at 2am, the decision was easy. It's a fantastic spot for a late-night sit-down meal and a cup of tea. The staff is well-managed and there's security present, which is necessary given the number of intoxicated individuals in the area. I definitely recommend stopping by after 10pm. However, I probably wouldn't visit during the day since there are plenty of other dining options nearby.
Popped in this morning, it’s been ages since I was here. After being sat at my table I then waited 6 minutes for a menu. I wouldn’t mind if it was busy but it wasn’t. I opt for the full English which arrived cold. I then asked for salt and was pointed in the direct of the toilets. The overall experience was poor and for £17 I would expect better. It’s a shame as I use to love this place but the service as definitely dropped since my last visit. It’s unlikely I will visit here again.
