The food is very authentic and home cooked from a family business. Tried the sarawak laksa and special chicken rice. The food has quite large portions which are very delicious. The laksa has lots of boneless chicken with a tasty curry broth. Tucked in a corner, I would recommend this tasty home cooked food for a small group of people. View all feedback.

Since reading a review by Ronnielui2003 a month ago on GJays I have had it bookmarked. Finally, today is the day as I'm out at Garden City and the restaurant is 5 minutes away. We arrive at lunchtime and the owner/chef comes out to explain the menu to us. Gordon is from Sarawak, Malaysia and is a new migrant to Australia. This restaurant has been operating for 7 months with help from his daughters. I am familiar with the items on the menu and for the three of us I order 4 dishes to share. Within 10 minutes the dishes come out in quick succession. The Char Kueh Teow was nice, served hot and spicy. The spices used in the Sarawak Seafood Laksa soup gave it a wonderful flavour but I found the seafood (five prawns) very much lacking. The Chicken Satay skewers were huge, more than double the size of most Asian restaurants and the satay sauce made from crushed peanuts was very good. The Gordon Chicken Rice was underwhelming as the poached Chicken was overcooked. After our meal I ordered 2 serves of Apam Balik, a common hawker style dessert in Malaysia. It's like a thick pancake with a filling of crushed peanuts, sesame seed and sugar. The general consensus is that this dessert was the best dish of the day, followed by the Char Kueh Teow and Chicken Satay. It should be noted that GJays prices are on par with Little Singapore at Market Square.

I tried the Gordon's chicken rice and would highly recommend it. Will eventually try the rest of the menu. It also helps it within walking distance and reasonably priced
Located in a small shopping village at the Wishart Outlook along Holmead Road, I discovered this place through its advertisement on Chinese local newspaper. Dropped in one Friday night after work and there were already diners waiting to place orders even though it was early 5:45pm. The only staff taking orders is a young girl (believe that she is Gordon's daughter) who is so sophisticated in multi-tasks. Ordered the signature Gordon Chicken Rice, Char Kueh Teow, Roti Canai and the dessert of Apam Balik. Meals are all delicious and full of Sarawak's style, particularly reflected on the Char Kueh Teow. Love the chicken of Gordon's Chicken Rice, which is tendered and tasteful but completely different from the Hainan Chicken Rice. Hero is the Apam Balik, which is the first time that I have such pancake for dessert and I don't mind to have that every day. Overall experience is good and it is highly recommended.
