What a hidden gem this is in Lockhart. Off the main roads but well worth the find. The atmosphere is genuinely local and the ambience is authentic. Gumbo is hearty and tasty not bland like most. Fried pickles are great and the batter is thick and spicy. Burgers are very good. View all feedback.
What Arlo Kulas doesn't like about El Rey And Nightclub:
Crawfish was okay. I didn't spicy, but they had no taste. Oysters TOO BIG:( Baked fish plate... oysters fishy, shrimp gum... Tilapia? Margaritas?!!! For $75 disappointed View all feedback.
Great friendly staff. Service is best and not existent when they are busy. But it's a small town and that's to be expected. You're serious among servants. Stay away from all Cajun on the menu when you are from Louisiana or actually know how to taste Cajun food. I like that to a Mexican restaurant trying to do Cajun food. Tacos are great! Po boys are okay. Crawfish are tasteless and simply dusted. They should soak them in spices, add dust for extra spices! Just read the instructions on the cancer cooker, they will be better if you do it! The oysters on the 1/2 shell are absolutely amazing! Cocktail sauce is fine, but it would be better to offer the chicks the ingredients to make their own. Ketchup, Worcestershire, Tabasco, lemon juice and horseradish for standard, and a small amount of Mayo for the Creole version. Why do you use cancer chefs on steamed vegetables? Why would someone want spicy steamed vegetables? Butter only boys if something! You were terrible! I love spicy and extreme heat, but not my steamed vegetables with a regular duck. Gumbo isn't really gumbo and tasteless with a blonde roux? Maybe it came from a package? If you cannot cook Roux, buy it at least in a glass. Dirty rice is not good at all, just say no, not a spot liver in it and extremely dry. Bleh... three times I had it with the same Tussi each time. Fried seafood is fine. I'm afraid of trying jambalaya or getuff because of the bad execution of gumbos and dirty rice. There is plenty of room for improvement for food safe. The kitchen has to look for some real Cajun recipes for rubber bears and dirty rice, or rent a real Cajun cook! Drinks are fine, but there is a serious lack of options for those who do not drink beer, especially for the price. You can get Jameson or Jack for whisky. Bourbon would be a nice option. We made 4 trips here and I give them 3 stars. We will continue to come after the oysters, but we will probably stick to fish tactics. I wasn't on the other side where billiards and live music are, so I can't rate them on this site.
Food was good, our server was friendly and fast. Drinks were yummy and ice cold!

A hole in the wall that will pleasantly surprise you!
