Having not expected anything exciting (Liscombe Lodge meals over the last number of years have been pretty traditional) we were very happy, in fact quite thrilled with our dinner. What Dev Rauniyar doesn't like about Liscombe Restaurant:
We had breakfast here which was a buffet - paid extra in the room rate to have it included. Otherwise the charge would be $16. Powdered scrambled eggs - not my fave. Breakfast meat. Fruit salad. Make your own waffle. Ketchup was served in a large bowl which seemed odd and made me somewhat concerned for how long the ketchup was in that bowl. Excellent meal. The service was okay. The windows were very dirty, taken from the view of the river.
The restaurant's dining room is very noisy. The buffet food, especially the desserts, are not fresh. The main dishes are heated, causing the potatoes to dry out and the windows inside and outside to be dirty. The carpet is as stale as the food. The service is bad and there is a lack of follow-up.
Had 2 dinner services that were excellent. Especially great were the mushroom tornotto and appetizers. Service was friendly. Food quality exceptional. Had a gluten intolerant celiac guest with us. Chef Mark Berridge came to our table and checked gluten-free products and cooked...up a fantastic meal original and delicious. Can't say enough about the personal attention and quality of cooking. Breakfast was also top notch. Very recommended.
3 of us stayed for lunch. The restaurant was beautiful and the table was next to the window with an incredible view of the river. The waiter took our order and everything seemed fine. The food came and the waiter was gone until we finished. My water had gone halfway through the meal and my wife never received the gravitation she demanded. We asked that our fries be made a little crispy, but that never happened. The bowl of the seafood cahowder was not very large, but was very good and filled with seafood. I thought it was strange that it wasn't with crackers or a role. If the waiter would come back to check us out, I would have asked for a role. The rest of the food was satisfactory. Better service would have made this a very pleasant Ovelall experience.
The food at this restaurant was subpar. Despite claiming to have a chef, the quality of the food did not meet expectations. The prices were high for the lackluster meals being served. After our disappointing dinner, we opted to dine elsewhere for the remainder of our stay. There are limited options in the area, and perhaps that is why this restaurant does not strive for excellence. With new owners in place, hopefully changes will be made to improve the overall dining experience.
