We got cod chips pension specials and the batt... read more We’ve been critical of here in past reviews and returned yesterday 1 March 24 for the first visit in a long time. We got cod chips pension specials and the battered fish which was real tasty was thin in 3 of the 4 nuggets. Honestly make it 2 or 3 nuggets and make the fish a bit thicker as batter should never out proportion the fish. Chips were perfection again the portion isn’t generous. Gas prices have fallen electricity prices are going to drop and yes I know it’s still dearer for everything but prices were increased benched in prices at their highest but costs have receded. We will return more often as its quality seems to be there. Staff are always very friendly.

While I won't say I won't ever go back, it may be a while before I do. The distance for me to get here is the same as to Kilkeel. I usually opt for the senior deal, which is a common choice for me. However, this time, I felt like I received less than half of the usual amount of fish. The portion was so small that a cod fish finger seemed thicker in comparison. I understand that prices have gone up, but during my recent travels in England, I was able to consistently get a generous portion of fresh cod and chips for £6. Some places even included a wedge of lemon. If I chose rock fish instead, I would save £1. In the past few weeks, I visited 5 different places in England for fish and chips, and today I went to Kilkeel. The portion size at John Dory was notably small, with about half the amount of fish compared to other places. While I understand that overhead costs are similar for all restaurants, I can only conclude that they might not be paying their staff fair wages. Ultimately, I felt like I was cheated, as the headline suggests.
